I had read the reviews before I booked this accommodation for the night, so I figured my stay would be a crap shoot and could go either way. I was looking for an economical place for my wife, my 23 year old son and me to plop our bodies down for one night after arriving at Key West in the afternoon and sampling South Beach that same afternoon and Mallory Square and Duval Street later in the evening. (We drove in from Cocoa Beach and stayed here on Tuesday, July 29th.)
It was pretty much what I had expected from the reviews so there were really no surprises. The property is situated at the eastern end of Key West. Because we had our own car, getting to Duval Street, Mallory Square, and the beach were not a problem. (I was already prepared to pay 15 bucks for a parking place by Mallory Square so it didn’t bother me when the parking attendant hit me up for the money.) I wouldn’t recommend this property for those without their own transportation.
Upon opening the door to our second floor room I did kill a bug or two, but that was the extent of the creepy crawlers. I didn’t consider this a big deal. Although the room was a bit worn looking, the bedding was clean and the carpet wasn’t that bad. The shower was hot and there were enough towels for the three of us. As mentioned in a previous review, there was a good size gap between the door and the floor but nothing that a bath towel couldn’t fix. Our room was in the back of the facility so there was no problem with noise. We saw the roosters but never heard them in the morning. Our night was very restful.
The continental breakfast in the morning was what I refer to as filler food. It consisted of wrapped up Danish, some juice and fruit. It was nothing to write home about, but it was something to give you some energy to get you moving. And that’s really all that we were looking for.
If you are planning on using this place as headquarters for a full week’s stay in Key West, you may end up frustrated and disappointed. But if you are just looking for a place to sleep for a night or two, and for a pretty cheap price - $110 for the night, taxes included, then this place should fit the bill for you.
