“Will be nice eventually”

The Reach resort will be a very nice location once their renovation is complete. We stayed three nights at the hotel from March 25 to 28. Honestly, this hotel should not be open to the public at this time. We were put in a room that had no working electrical outlets, no mini fridge, no clock, no wi-fi, the phone did not work, bathroom door did not close, no trash can. Additionally, the room was accross from a diesel generator or pump that kicked in every couple of hours throughout the night. It was evident that this room was not ready to be rented. The clerks were extremely nice and helpful but could not move us until the next day. We moved to a much better room, but then faced contruction of a new hotel across the street. Very loud from 7:30 AM until about 5 PM. The Reach needs another couple of months before it should be open to the public. Every staff member we mentioned this to agreed, but I'm sure they were happy to be working. We were disapointed by the game the hotel manager was playing. Every time we asked to speak with her, we were told she was next door at the sister hotel, Casa Marina. We left a phone mumber for her to call but did not receive a call back. We went to the Casa Marina, to be told she was at our hotel at the time. (Figured out her game quicky, can't blame her, she knew the hotel was not ready) Still waiting for a call...... A clerk gave us a $100 good will credit, but the damage was done.

My advice is as follows; if you have reservations at the Reach, ask to be moved to the Casa Marina. It's renovation is complete and also has a beach and two pools. If you must stay at the Reach, and don't mind sharing your vacation with lots of construction workers, ask for a room that faces the pool, it will be much quieter and only about $50 a night more. If I knew of the renovation, I would have gladly paid the extra money for some peace. All in all, a very nice place with a terrific staff, (sans manager) but not ready for prime time!

Ask many quesitons before you book or stay!!

We recently stayed at the Reach Resort for three nights and I have mixed feelings. The construction at the resort is 99% complete and the hotel is beautiful, but there are some quirks that you should know before making the decision to stay here.

Reservations - Avoid booking over the phone, and use the online system. I was repeatedly refused discount rates over the phone and also told only the more expensive rooms were available. Yet when I checked online, the discounts and lower priced rooms were available. When I called back and informed them of this, availability, the discounts and lower priced rooms were "magically" available over the phone.

Private Beach - The hotel sits on a tiny private beach and has a beautiful pool area. The ocean views rooms mostly overlook this pool/beach area. However, we visited one ocean view that mostly looked at the construction going on next door, so be careful! Also, the beach is small and can get crowded so we often used the Casa Marina's large beach next door which had more amenities like towel and drink service, hammocks, and a prettier view.

The rooms - We stayed on an ocean view junior suite which was clean, modernly decorated, and the King bed was very comfortable. Nice sheets, linens, amenities etc. We also used the suite's balcony fairly frequently which had a beautiful view. The room was one of the best parts of our stay.

Noise - Although the construction is finished at this hotel, the property right next door is undergoing a major construction job. During the week day mornings, we woke up to the sound of jack hammers. Also, there were problems with the fire alarms which went off EVERY morning of our stay, for 20 minutes to an hour. I don't know why they could not fix the problem.

Housekeeping - When we arrived at 6pm (check in at 3), we were able to go directly to our room. But many people were waiting in the lobby for their rooms to be prepared, nearly three hours after the check in time. Not good. Also, the hall ways were often lined with used dishes that were not picked up for days. However, we did not have any problems with housekeeping servicing our room.

Incomplete Services - the ice machines are not yet installed on each of the floors, the restaurant is not open for dinner, and the fitness room is not yet equipped.

Overall, I would be willing to stay here again for a really good price. Otherwise, I would much rather stay at Casa Marina, the sister resort next door, which offers more amenities and better service almost at the same price.

We booked our room at the Reach in January 08. After booking I called several times to ask differnet questions regarding the hotel. Everything seemed fine, until we got there. Upon check in we relized that the hotel was still under construction, there was no restaurant or bar and the beach was a mess. The hotel was noisy and a mess. We had visited the Reach in 03 and found it to be very nice and expected the same this time. We were very disappointed that no one ever told us about the construction or that there was no restaurant...but hey we could get a complementary boxed lunch. We ended up contacting a differnet hotel and they graciously matched the rate of the Reach and even upgraded us to a suite. When we got to our new hotel we met several other couples who had the same problem at the Reach. Sorry Reach Resort, but you've lost this couple as guests!!

We knew that the hotel restaurant and bar were not open. We e-mailed the resort, and a manager said yes, we opened without the restaurant and bar, but if you are not satisfied with the Reach, we will transfer you to our sister resort, Casa Marina (a couple hotels down the beach).

We first got there, there was tarps in the lobby and our hotel hallway was a slab of concrete (they were laying a beautiful tile on other floors). Put off, but not shocked, we went to our room, it was stunning, modern, but comfortable. Our view amazing! We were excited to get to the beach we could see, even from our courtyard view. We got there and the beach was fine....no great beach in Key West, and this one is about as good as it gets as far as the beaches we have seen there. We were there about one minute before the drills and saws started. ALL AFTERNOON, we decided to switch over to the sister resort, again, I was put off that we had to walk there ourselves with all our luggage, this being a luxury resort. The sister resort was mostly finished with renovations, and it is beautiful! The beach is not quite as nice, but well worth the move. The Reach will be ALMOST as nice as the Casa Marina when it is done, BUT WAIT TILL NEXT SEASON!
They obviously didn't want to miss out on the season this year, and has to be why they would open it under these circumstances. Places to eat....right inbetween the two resorts is Backyard Louie's. Very romantic, best view, great food, (try the ceviche starter), pricey but you pay for the view too. Go for lunch too! Make reservations. La Te Da........great place. I can't tell you how good our meal was here, and to try would not do it justice. Seldom would I say try the crab cakes, but if it is on the menu....do it! Two great cuban restaurants, one closer to the resorts, but it is in more of a residential neighborhood, and mostly locals, called El Siboney. Locals swear by it, and we know why. However, our favorite was in Malory square area, El Mason de Pepe. I judge Cuban by my plantains, the BEST! Everything we had here, including the Margaritias, were delicious! We heard from a Chicagoian local not to expect much food wise, in comparison, we were greatly suprised, especially being foodies! Enjoy your trip!

We booked our room for 2 nights at The Reach after visiting their website and looking at the pictures of the rooms. We decided on an oceanview room which came to about $575 per night with all the taxes and parking (Does not include internet either). Wow, what we could have done with that money. It definately was not worth more that $350 per night.
Yes the room was clean and recently remodeled as was the entire resort, but still not worth the money. Our ocean view room was quite a stretch from the ocean and if you looked very hard you could actually see it. The balconies are not private at all. We had to look through railings of many balconies to see the ocean. I felt like I was behind bars!
We were not warned that construction was still in progress when we booked and it was very loud at times. Two maintenance workers entered our room (on their own), while we were in it, to install 3 nails to a countertop (which shattered shortly after they left). We found this very rude! We never tried to get any reimbursement because we were certain it would be a waste of our vacation time.
So if you have extra money in your pocket and like to waste it, stay here, otherwise STAY AWAY!!!

  • Liked — Recently remodeled and clean. Close to Duval St.
  • Disliked — Misleading and too expensive.

We stayed at the Reach Resort four nights, the third week of February, and were very pleased overall. We were aware the room renovations were not yet complete, and the restaruant was not open, so we were not unpleasantly surprised upon arrival. In fact, we were perhaps plesantly surprised.

The hotel was beautiful, inclduing the lobby, courtyard, pool and beach. The restaurant should be open soon, and it will be lovely. The staff was pleasant and helpful. We were upgraded in advance to a Boutique Suite, and the room was beautiful, with a nice sized patio overlooking the courtyard, pool and ocean.

We were never bothered by contstruction noise, with the exception of one afternoon while we were lying by the pool, and they were working on some nearby rooms. But 'Ricardo' was playing some fun tunes by the pool, so the construction noise was hardly noticable.

We rather liked the fact that the hotel was not yet to full capacity, as we did not have to deal with a crowded pool area or beach. All guests of the Reach Resort have access to their sister property the Casa Marina, with a stunning pool area, and very nice, long beach with hammocks strung between palm trees. The Casa Marina and Reach Resort are within walking distance of each other. The Casa has a shop where you can rent scooters, which we did one day and had a blast "scooting" around Key West. We also took advantage of Billy's Barefoot WaterSports rental, which is located right on the Reach Resort's private beach.

Our only real disappointment was that neither hotel had a hot tub, and we were surprised that none of the suites had whirl pool tubs. The fact that the restaurant was not open was not an inconvenience, as there are so many wonderful restaurants in Key West, many within walking distance. The night we check in to the Reach, Robyn at the front desk suggested we try Camille's just down the street, and it was fabulous! The resort staff also served box lunches by the pool, and had a bar set up so we could enjoy drinks while we lounged by the pool, which we happily took advantage of.

The Reach Resort will be a gem when renovations are complete, which I would guess to be soon.

We would definitely stay at the Reach Resort again, and would reccomend it to others.

We stayed at the resort four nights and had a very good experience. The restaurant/bar is still not completed but there is no end to places to eat and drink in Key West!!! The location is great, the room was very nice (we were upgraded to ocean view at check-in), staff was very nice and helpful. On the negative there is still a little remodeling going on, not in our area thank goodness, the phones still are missing the overlay for hotel numbers and we had to get security to get the in-room safe working. We would go back to The Reach Resort and would recommend it to others.
