“What you see is what you get”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2009

Take the virtual tour of this hotel and it looks great which is why we booked it. Sometimes when you get there, it is not quite what you expected. But not here; its a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location right on the beach. So let me spell out the nitpicks.

Its about a 20 minute walk from the main street and not a shop in between so you cannot pop out for a bottle of water or anything else. Whilst the hotel rooms are reasonably priced, everything else is expensive. There are two large swimming pools but the maximun depth is only 4ft 6in so no diving. The large free car park is not really big enough and, at bedtime, you may just find it full and need to park in the street.

As I said, these are nitpicks and if you are not on a budget, you can use valet parking and pay the prices for food and drink.

The Bell/Valet staff was A+. Very fast and attentive. We had a suite with an ocean view. Room could have been cleaner. There was a small amount of food on the floor from the previous guest. Very beautiful pool area and oceanside grill. Would stay here again.

Our mid-March trip to the Casa Marina did now begin well. As appears to be case for many visitors, our Kind bed room which we had reserved was not available and we were instead directed to spend the first night with a ground floor, interior facing, 2X double bed room. Add to that, as we were on the front end of Spring Break, we were also next door to loud, drunken college kids (I was one, too, not so long ago. I'll give this a pass..) Of course we were disappointed with this and made our case to the front desk. Patrick at the front desk was extremely helpful and was able to remedy the situation and get us into an ocean view king bed room later the next afternoon. He was extremely courteous, friendly, and highly effective. It's no suprise I see his name mentioned positvely in other reviews. He's truly an asset to the facility.

Other than the room, the beach and pool are very, very nice. Beach service was also excellent. Namely, Scott from Oklahoma on beach and pool service was exceptional and made a particularly good impression on us with his attentive service and personality.

Assuming you get the "right room" , I think this is a great spot to spend your time in Key West. Close enough to Duval, without being too close, and has some quality beachfront space. It's also not cheap. While a $300/night room would appear to be a good bargain for a Waldorf Collection resort, that $300 only gets you in the door with a basic room and this is net of the egregious charges and resort fees that get slapped on and have been discussed in other reviews... The hotel was pretty packed when we were there, so obviously, the market will bear these charges so I'd expect the hotel to continue to charge them. That being said, for a very similar pricepoint, you can stay up the street a couple blocks at the sister facility The Reach Resort which is a far superior experience I understand.

This is the most stunning hotel I've ever seen in Florida. The grounds are impeccable and beautiful. They lobby area is impressive and the rooms are spacious/clean. The beach had lots of hammocks to lay on which was so relaxing. Only con is that the location is a bit far from Duval Street. Definitely not too far to walk though.

I travel a lot for business and this was one of the nicest, all-around great, places I've stayed. Everything about it was superlative, in particular the helpfu staff. For instance Julie made pleasant conversation and walked me to the bike rental place when I had 2hrs b/f my flight back to work drew me away. I'm writing this review w/o knowing prices, which might affect my review if I knew how much the room and resort fees was.

We decided to stay at the Casa Marina after looking at many hotels in Key West, and overall were quite pleased with the experience.
pros
-Beautiful setup, right on the water
-two pools and beach with easy access to water sports
- very aesthetically pleasing
-perfect proximity to Duval St. and the heart of Key West
cons
-slow service (when we checked in one of the rooms still hadn't been cleaned and a call for tech. support took about 35+ min.)
-expensive (although not as expensive as some of the hotels in Key West, a pop at the hotel shop was nearly four dollars for a 20 oz. bottle, plus the wifi was not free)
- Although thte cleaning service was good, one morning I was told that the cleaning lady couldn't come back later in the day and that I would have to leave my room that moment in order for it to be cleaned.
Overall we were quite happy with the experience
