“Great hotel @ superb location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

We spent 4 nights @ the Hyatt during our Key West vacation & were thoroughly impressed. The best part about this hotel is the location - close to Simonton beach, historic Seaport, Duval Street, Marina & Mallory Square. We stayed in building 3 & had great views of the cruise ships morning. Shor restaurant & Mojito bar were great. Pool was small but cozy & nice for late night swimming with colored lights. Room, shower & balcony oozed island calmness, and staff were very friendly. Water adventures can start right at the hotel or walking distance. In all, a great romantic stay!

hotel is nice but staff seems like they all got there yesterday and know little or nothing about the place. example: the gal at the bar, when asked to make a "hurricane" (kind of a signature key west drink) said she had never heard of that and had no idea what that was since she'd just arrived from chicago one month ago. most of them seem to consider it their job to explain why things can't be done. customer service really kind of sucked for a hotel that charged $535 per night. it wasn't like people were rude generally, they just appeared to have no training and no idea what they were supposed to do. simply not up to par for a hotel at that price point.

As a Starwood Platinum member, I decided to stay at this Hyatt based on reviews that the Westin was much closer to the cruise ships. I haven't stayed at a Hyatt in years - Hyatt had matched my Starwood Platinum with their mid-tier Platinum and I prepaid 3 nights at the Hyatt. I know the New Year holiday when we visited is a busy time for all hotels and I had no expectation that we would be treated like I am as a Starwood Platinum. However a few major issues really made me really wonder if this is a Hyatt or a Key West issue - room was not ready until right at or slightly after the 4 pm check-in time although we arrived several hours earlier. We were offered an upgrade that was a "handicapped" room. While I have no issues with a handicapped room, I've never considered a handicapped room an upgrade. I understand why the room wasn't ready now because I had to request our room be cleaned at 2:30 pm on New Year's eve - housekeeping had been on the floor but apparently not our room and said the guaranteed clean time was by 5:30 pm (wow). Also, as a Hyatt Platinum we were supposed to receive a newspaper which we did not. The hotel provided some "amentities" to make up for the checkin issue but this experience and the extensive travel that my boyfriend and I do has inspired me to write a blog about travel customer service that I will be starting soon. The customer is not always right - I don't believe I deserve special attention but why provide amenities for bad service or inadequate attention to detail when good service would go a whole lot farther?

We had a very enjoyable stay here and would gladly return again. The service was excellent from the concierge, to the staff at the blue mojito and the on site Shor restaurant. The food at Shor is excellent but very pricey. We never needed the rental car as the location is within easy walking distance to almost every key attraction. The room was modern and clean. You won't be disappointed here.

I had visited this hotel about 6years ago for my dads wedding brunch. Upon seeing the property, I had decided this is where I would one day get married (long before I met my husband).
on 12-1-12 we were married on the property along with our wedding reception.
No words can describe how magical this place is, working with Jillian was a delight.
The staff that worked our reception, the chef, EVERYTHING was beyond words.
The staff went above and beyond to create the most magical day of my life.
Although, we stayed at another location (a B&B for a more romantic Key West feel) - this hotel is top on my list to stay at on future visits.
On our last day in Keywest (we were there for 10), we went back to the Hyatt to see it one last time, the staff remembered us, and was so kind to allow us to visit all the locations we used for the wedding and reception.
A +++++ - this place is beyond amazing !!
Thank you Hyatt & Jillian.
see you guys soon,
The Burchards

Overall, we had an outstanding stay here.
Service - personalized, friendly, helpful, supportive. When Key West airport got shut down due to winds, they were helpful to us as we figured out what to do.
View - the back of the resort faces the water, and from their small beach & dock you can also get great sunrise & sunset views, if not from your room. Our room had great views as well.
Location - Just minutes walk from Duval St & the port, so you are close to most things in Key West. You don't need a car unless you plan on driving off Key West.
Room - Nice, simple & colorful. We had 2 balconies with a recliner & table/chairs. The tv was nice though we did not use it. They have a clock with an Ipod connector. Fridge as well.
Hotel - Simple & nice. They have a hammock on the beach & a swing on their dock - 2 cool things to be sure to use. The pool is very small but nice. It is open airish. Elevators are convenient, if you do not want to walk.
Food - one great restaurant which we used for breakfast as part of their package. The service here was great & they did a great job accommodating us off menu with vegetarian options.
Concierge - very helpful, but you will save 10-20% if you shop around for tours & water sports.

Room Tip: Water view & higher up - though there are only 4 floors.

We just returned from a 5 day stay at the Hyatt and have fallen in love with Key West. Hearing about the property through a Snique away offer we booked the 5 days starting December 16th. The hotel is centrally located to both Duval street and to the waterfront and we took advantage of both (see other reviews). We found the hotel to be very nice, mostly modern in decor and very quiet, which could be due to a slow week in town.

The rooms were nice, large rooms with small balconies. The shower was large with a rainhead shower that had plenty of pressure and hot water. We were in building 3 which has the view of the "homeless beach" which we did not find to be a problem. Only one or two slept there at a time and they were quite and did not disturb anyone.

There was a restaurant on site (see review) but we only had 1 breakfast there. The hotel gives you a coupon that offers an increasing discount at the restaurant and grill starting at 15% and going to 25%. This is a very good deal as the meals are pricey but so is the area.

The pool is small but nice and just under 4 ft at the deepest. Lots of open chairs but there is limited sun all day. The bar/grill takes on whole side and has a TV lounge and great views of the water. Just off the pol area are several options for lounging in the sun. The first is next to the bar with a small upper sand area the overlooks the water. This location rarely gets sun. There is a second upper sand lounge area in front of the restaurant which also gets limited sun.

The best area to enjoy the sun and sunset is on the dock also in front of the restaurant. This area gets sun all day and offers a decent view of the sunset for days when you don't want the crowds a Mallory sq. The coupon mentioned above works in the lounge area for lunch a good thing to know.

The water is reached by a set of stairs to what could be called a narrow beach if you are generous. The first few feet of the water is coral and rocks which makes is difficult to get past but the water is great once you get in. The water is clean and refreshing if a little cold. The major problem is you are in an active dock area with jet skies on one side and 40 ft boats on the other.

The lounge areas have food and beverage service and offer happy hour from 4-6 pm. We spent a couple of excellent days there under the care of Luann and NIck at the bar. Luann was excellent and kept an eye on us both days. She is a big plus for the hotel. If you get home before the bar closes see if Nick can make you his killer white Russian.

A shout out to Director of Food and Beverage Pascal Castiau. We were eating breakfast at the hotel and I was trying to get our servers attention. When he did not notice us Mr. Castiau came right over to see what we needed and took pains to make sure everything was ok. We had a nice conversation and the Hyatt needs to keep an eye on him for future promotions.

This is a great property if you are looking to be central to everything. The staff were all friendly with everyone of them smiling and greeting you as you walked around the property. I would not have a problem staying there again.
