We spend 3 nights at the Doubltree from 08/24/05 to 08/27/05. I found the hotel over the travel agency here in Luxembourg. At the beginning when we arrived we first got a room that had a terrible smell. It was really not possible to stay even a few minutes inside. We decided to open the window and see what happens. After 2 hours the smell was still there or even worse. We called the housekeeper, she came and asked us if we would like to have some fresh air and that the problem was probably due to the Air conditionning that was not working. We had 2 guys comming to repair, while they were repairing they noticed the carpet was wet and the smell came from there. After an other 2 hours of waiting the answer was clear, the aircon was repaired but the smell will remain.
Finally after a few round trips from the room to the lobby we got a new room. That one was okay and did not have that nasty smell.
Unfortunatly on our second night, we had a power loss due to the hurricane Katerina that hit the hotel. As it was anyway already late we did not worry much about that. the problem is that Katerina was over the Keys the entire next day, so we had to spend our time inside the hotel and that is when you realise how the hotel really is.
There was no power except in the lobby, there was not even any power inside the kitchen, the employees of the hotel have become nasty after a while, because people were complaining. You could not ask them anything, because they would make fun of you. And as there was no power you could not even listen to the radio or use the bathroom inside your room. That is how we had to spend the entire day. When we woke up in the morning, of course the shower was cold (still no power), but we made it a try and drove far away from that hotel.

Spent the week of August l5 in Key West at the Doubletree. Hotel was great, staff was very friendly & helpful. This hotel is about 3-4 miles from Duval Street so unless you had a car, you relied on their shuttle service. Shuttle service to dowtown VERY DEPENDABLE and convenient.
Doubletree is about a block from the ocean, very nice to walk along the sidewalk by the ocean. Could walk to SMather's Beach, about 2 miles, but hotel has shuttle service there too.
There are 3 restaurants, 2 inside and one poolside. Pool is nice, not real big, they do have several cabanas and you can have a massage poolside.
Rooms were nice, clean, "tropical decor, granite in bathroom".
We did rent a car for 24 hours and went to Bahia Honda Beach which is a must. The best natural beach in Keys we found and not manmade, it is awesome!
FYI: Due to the hurricane at the end of July or first of August, Smather's Beach was a little smelly due to the amount of seaweed washed up on shore. They were in the process of removing the huge piles of seaweed. Also, beach at Ft. Zachary Taylor was pretty much gone. Same hurricane took the sand back out to sea! Corps of Engineers was going to work on replacing the beach after hurricane season!
The hotel does charge a daily rate to park a car in their lot.
The Doubletree is on the quieter end of Key WEst, more relaxing than staying dowtown, but be sure to go downtown and see all the shops, bars and the "Sunset Celebration". Don't forget the Southernmost Point!
Hope Key West survives the rest of this hurricane season.

We stayed at the hotel, room only, for three nights in August.
This hotel is very nice.
Our room was light, airy and pleasant.
The pool area is rarely crowded, with ample cushioned sun loungers and complimentary towels. The pool itself, while not large, is perfect for a quick cooling dip at any time!
There is a small gym, with running machines & weight station. In the gym are two computers with free internet access at any time.
The bus shuttle was very dependable. Very accommodating, laying on extra transport if needed.

We found it a very good base for relaxing around the pool in the morning and early evening, and visiting Duval Street in the afternoon and late evenings. About 15 mins on the bus gets you to Duval Street. We caught a taxi back one night that cost us $16 for four of us.

If we return, we'd return here as you feel that you can relax in a quiet oasis of calm after the party atmosphere of Duval.

We arrived at the Doubletree a day late due to Hurricane Dennis, we were worried at what we might find in the aftermath but we need not as the hotel had done a terrific job in getting everything sorted, you would not believe a hurricane had gone through 24 hours earlier! The reception staff were jolly and efficient, very child friendly and the Cookies went down a treat! The Rooms were delightful and just as we imagined Key West decor would be. The Breakfast was to a high standard, a great Pool Bar and a great pool. It's location is too far to walk to the main areas, The Shuttle bus is great but does get full very quickly, the hotel does all it can to accomodate everybody but sometimes you may have to be patient and wait for another one. Far better we booked taxis in the evening which were not expensive and drove the car into Key West on a couple of occassions, providing you dont try and park right near Duvall there is plenty of very reasonably priced parking around within 5 minutes walk of the main area. This Hotel and all it's Staff were great, our 6th time in the US and this Hotel is one of the best, I have high standards and this Hotel met easily them, great value, Highly Recommended.

“Great Stay at Grand Key!!”

My wife and I have just come back from a brief but very enjoyable stay at Double tree Grand Key Resort. We spent 2 weeks in Miami and decided to round the holiday off at Key West. We chose this hotel partly due to the reviews on this site and partly due to the hotels facilities and location. Located just outside the main part of Key West. DTGKR is a short shuttle ride away from Old Town. The shuttle service we found was excellent. With two convinent drop off and pick up points the service excels. For example, We wanted to get a shuttle back to the hotel Saturday night at around 9pm, no worries two shuttles arrived together. The hotels facilities are excellent. The pool area is generous and well monitored and equiped. There is free internet access in the fitness room, which also boasts some fine equipment. We had excellent food and service in the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast. We highly recommend this hotel. We found all staff to be genuinely friendly and provided a very high level of customer service.
