“Nice to see good old fashioned customer service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2009

Just returned from a week at the Doubletree. I am a frequent traveler and have been a little less than wow-ed with customer service at hotels recently. What a refreshing change of pace here! The customer service at the hotel was just great. Very warm people, who were quite accomodating and interested in making our stay easy and pleasant. The hotel is a little bit of a ride from Old Town. We didn't bother renting a car (too expensive) but had no issues with the frequent shuttle schedule and easy pick up spots. Plus drivers were fun and nice. Hotel is clean, somewhat small rooms, but at less than $200 a night at peak of spring break, a nice deal. Definitely will be back and kudos to the management team for focusing the staff on customers!

I booked the double tree and I was a little skeptical since it is on the other side of the island but I was very pleased. Plenty of parking, great pool, pleasant staff, clean rooms and very comfy beds! I have stayed in key west before at an ecomony private inns they had terrible lumpy old beds(we tried swithching rooms.) So i was very pleased at the peaceful rest. Also, The pool is one of the better ones on the island. the shuttle was extremely convenient and reliable and takes you into the action on duval. If you really want to hang out on duval 24/7 stay closer, but if u want a cool gettaway with pooltime, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here.

It you're looking for a quaint little place close to the action in Key West, keep looking. The Doubletree Key West is a nice "chain type" hotel out near the airport. It's a beautiful place, though, and they have a very reliable shuttle service that stops at two places downtown (basically both ends of Duval Street). They'll also drop you elsewhere along the way if you ask. A couple of the drivers were good about giving historical information along the way.

We thought about renting a car for a couple of days while we were here, but there was no real benefit to that. We did end up renting bicycles and riding around one day. The island is tailor-made for that. It's not all that big, it's completely flat, and since there are bikes and scooters everywhere, you don't feel like a driver is going to run you over because they aren't paying attention.

High points: Blond Giraffe key lime pie, and seeing the sunset from the observation deck of the Conch Hotel (actually, now the Westin) on Duval Street (across from Fast Buck Freddy's). The Doubletree's pool is very nice, and they had a Calypso-style musician in the afternoons that we enjoyed.

We arrived at the Hotel just before midnight after travelling approx 24hrs. Check in was fast and friendly and the cookies were warm (Yum!!)
The room was comfortable, probably in need of a little freshening up. The bed was extremely comfortable and we had a great nights sleep every night of our stay.
All of the staff were extremely friendly - most especially Hanna in the Restaurant and the young lady who looks after the pool guests during the day.
We often took the hotel shuttle bus into old town and never had a problem as Hotel always had a back up bus right behind if there were too many people for the first bus. Special mention for John the driver who is a fountain of knowledge about Key West and also Jose full of info and a wry sense of humour.
We had a problem with one of the tumble dryers during our stay - somebody had obviously tumbled something with ink in it and it stained some of our clothes. Front desk had this sorted within 5 minutes of notification and our clothes were sent out to a laundry and came back perfectly cleaned within 24hrs and free of charge. This level of service was apparent throughout our stay.
There was some renovation work in progress during our stay but it did not affect our stay at all.
Just one thing I would suggest during colder evenings perhaps the indoor bar could be opened instead of or as well as the tiki bar by the pool. Some evenings when we came back from old town it was too cold to sit outside and the indoor bar was only open at weekends. I appreciate that Hotel has a lot of corporate gatherings in this bar, but they could increase profits if they stayed open for guests as well. In fact bar staff would be the weakest link in the otherwise excellent service offered at this Hotel.
All in all a great place to stay. Relaxing with great service.

  • Liked — Relaxed atmosphere. Great Service
  • Disliked — Lack of Bar service at night.

hotel is ok. nothing fancy. seems a bit pricy. i paid 239 per night plus all the taxes etc. but key west is expensive. I can say the staff is great. Joe the bus driver is very nice. hotel is on the other side of town so we took the hotel bus. It was packed most of the time but they got another bus going. if you enjoy duval st late at night. pick another hotel

The Positives:
The hotel is away from downtown, so you can expect it to be a little more quiet, away from the drunken party scene. If you WANT to be a part of that scene, maybe better to stay somewhere downtown.

Also, the hotel offers a shuttle bus that leaves on the hour (and I mean ON THE HOUR) so it's easy to get to downtown without a car. Downtown is like 5 miles away so it's just a bit too far to walk.

The hotel makes good chocolate chip cookies. Ask for them at the front desk--they're free.

THere was a wedding reception right outside my window. I was a little nervous about how late it would go, so I called the front desk and they told me it would be over by 10pm. Sure enough, the DJ wrapped it up just a few minutes after 10 and the rest of the night was peaceful.

Negatives:
There's really just nothing special about this hotel. The downstairs layout is sort of strange--it doesn't have that welcoming feel to it, and they were doing construction and had a lot of the lobby covered with plastic and there was quite a bit of hammering going on. Always sad to see that sort of thing when you arrive on you long-awaited vacation.
The furniture, carpet, bathroom is a bit worn down. Hotel needs some rennovation.

Also, Hotel is way overpriced, in my opinion. I know that KW hotels are really expensive, but for the price, it didn't seem much better than the Best Western, etc.

If you don't mind staying a bit of a ways from downtown, I might recommend one of the hotels on the same street, like the Best Western, etc.

  • Liked — I'm embarassed to say this: Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • Disliked — Just Blah--nothing memorable for the price.

had a great time, the staff was A+, friendly and helpful with anything we needed. breakfast buffet was good and had all the usual breakfast fare. but i did feel that it was a little over priced. they are doing some renovating but it in no way affected our trip. our room was clean and the bed was comfortable slept great every night. we would stay here again in a heartbeat, wouldn't even look for another place to stay.
