“Execellent hotel in Keywest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

One of the cleanest hotels in key west area. It is located outside of all the action but they have shuttle service every hour to City center. We checked in at 2PM an hour early and took the 3PM shuttle to Sun set cruise and did the cruise and went to some bar hopping and returned back to hotel around 11:30 in their shuttle. We dont have to take our car as it is very expensive to get decent parking in key west hot spots.

The previous reviews are correct, place is well maintained, desk clerks friendly, pool area very nice and cookies are yummy. One complaint, and I feel it is a valid one, is the maid that cleaned our room. I am a neat person so I clean up after myself and don't leave a mess for the maids to clean up but I don't make my bed. That is a perk of staying in a nice hotel. Our room looked ransacked after the maid was finished cleaning. She/he threw our personal belongings on the floor. This included items left on the desk, coffee table and bed. My nightgown had been on the bed and ended up across the room in the corner by the balcony door. Since the desk and coffee table didn't need cleaned or dusted, I wasn't sure why our things were pushed off of these surfaces. It looked like someone was having a bad day and took it out on our room. The other problem was the noise. We could hear our neighbors conversations, TV etc...so don't plan on sleeping in if your neighbors are early risers. There is also a large gap at the bottom of the door that lets in hallway light and noise so you can hear everything going on outside your room. I resorted to putting towels down to cover the gap. I would not stay here again because there are many nice choices in Key West.

Thank you for staying with us, and for the positive comments and scores you gave us in the Hilton SALT survey. We appreciate your honesty. Please accept my sincere apologies for your experiencing anything less than a great stay. You are correct, a perk of staying in a nice hotel is having your room cleaned. We figured out who was responsible and have taken appropriate action to ensure that our Housekeeping staff cleans our guest rooms without moving our guests’ personal belongings.

This was a nice hotel , central for everything and near good restuarants , breakfast was good value but was spoilt sometimes by pushy individuals trying to get more food before yourself.

rooms were excellent , bus into duvall street was a good selling point , but need to take into consideration of the people wanting to use the bus.

staff were excellent and helpful , would recommend the hotel for a vacation

Just returned from an 8-night stay at the Doubletree. I stayed there for two nights last year, however we usually stay in Old Town. Old Town resorts were $200+/night so after considering the BW Hibiscus (where our family stayed when we were married in KW last year) I elected the DT because it is a nicer property. I was very happy with the decision, we made use of both the free shuttle which is run very efficiently (they run a second shuttle when the first one is full) and our rental car since we flew into Miami and drove.

The staff is exceptionally friendly from the front desk to the shuttle drivers, and we always felt at home. Our room was on the second floor with a small balcony overlooking the pool which was nice. We booked a smoking room, since it was the only one available with a pool view and my only complaint was that the room reeked of smoke when we returned to it, even though we did not smoke in it - my wife smokes but only on the balcony. I spoke to the front desk and they told me if there is a heavy smoker on the floor it can seep through the vents. They told me they would freshen the room and that did a good job of minimizing the smoke order for the rest of the stay.

Everything else was fine, the pool was great for relaxing in the afternoon and had live music on the weekends. The breakfast buffet was decent (we were comped for it as well as parking as a Hilton Honors VIP). The shuttle takes about 15 minutes to get to the lower Duval area and also makes stops at upper Duval and the beach if requested. The room was fairly spacious, decor was nothing exceptional but did not look worn, and the bed was comfortable.

The resort is a very good value if you don't mind taking the hourly shuttle to Old Town.

Room Tip: Look for a room with a pool view - much nicer than looking at the parking lot. Don't book a smo...

We arrived early as our flight into Key West was early so we went to the hotel around noon. Our room wasn't ready but we were offered the use of the changing room to sit by the pool. The front desk clerk was very helpful with access to the changing room & the bellman stored our luggage for us. Phillipe was his name ( I think) and he was very friendly. The desk clerk came & found us at the pool & delivered our room keys. The pool area was nice & the server was pretty quick for being the only staff serving outside.I was somewhat disappointed with the pool view room we had pre-paid for.....It did look towards the pool but mostly onto the roof of the pool bar down below. The patio lacked privacy & quiet due to the location of the room to the poolside bar. The bath products were sparse I think & the towels hanging over the back of the toilet is not acceptable to me. They need to relocate where the linens are stored in the bathroom.

Room Tip: Pool view could include the room over the pool bar....be sure & ask before you take the key!

After reading reviews and researching hotels in Key West, we settled upon the Doubletree. Any accommodations in Key West are generally rather expensive for what you get (compared to other locations) so while we would have preferred a more inexpensive stay, we ended up with this resort in the midrange. We were not disappointed at all. The room was very spacious, clean and well furnished with white painted furniture and granite countertops and storage for all the extras to be spread out in ( ie. personal toiletries, shoes, hairdryers etc.). We stayed for four nights so appreciated the room to unpack. Our only regret was that we could not take the time to enjoy the resort more (since we were visiting family in the area).

The staff were great and very, very responsive. When we arrived, our first room had obviously recently had the furniture repainted and the paint odor, while not extreme, was a problem since one of our party is allergic to paint fumes. Calling the front desk brought an immediate response and move to another room (that may have even been a slight upgrade).

We did not have occasion to use the shuttle to downtown because we had our own vehicle and knew the city well. The hotel does charge $10 a day parking but our AAA discount offset this cost. We did use the pool ( small...but land is a premium on this island) and enjoyed the tropical bar and pool area. We also had a very good meal late one evening on the outside patio of the restaurant, with excellent service. Breakfasts (one room service, one on patio) also included excellent service.

The only warning I would give would be that if you want a quiet place to unwind at the end of the day, this is the place for you. It is at the far east end of the island, close to the airport. If you are looking for direct beach access, go to the Sheraton. If you want to party the night away and enjoy the nightlife within walking distance of your motel, choose (and pay for) one of the downtown accommodations. We were glad we stayed away from motels on the gulf side of the island because of very disruptive road construction going on there. We will stay at the Doubletree resort again without hesitation.

Room Tip: A room with pool view was very nice. Also ask about if there is a balcony with outdoor seating. We...
