“Great Place to enjoy Key West”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2011

For the price you cannot beat this resort. Near the airport yet you can get to Duval Street via the hourly free shuttle. Pick up and return at 20 minutes after the hour. NO DRIVING. Jose is the best driver/guide ever. Place is clean and all staff are friendly. The pool area is sunny all day and Mike makes sure everyone is taken care of around the pool deck. Live music Friday, Sat and Sunday and breakfast is included on some reservations. We have been there four times and prefer it to staying in the middle of all the bustle because it so easy to get back and forth. Debbie will make sure you find the tours, restaurants and cruises to suit your desires. It has a nice gym and a wonderful outside bar. The bar food delivered right to your chaise lounge chair is typical of most places but it is really good. Go in mid december when to temp is in the high 70s and get on a cruise boat for the lighted Christmas Parade. It is a blast.
We will go again.

Room Tip: Get a balcony overlooking the pool for sun. Rooms in the back if you want fewer distractions

Beautiful hotel. Friendly staff very welcoming and a beautiful hotel . From the minute you arrive you are treated wonderful. We had just missed the shuttle so they called another one for us. The room is clean and the bed was very comfortable. We really did not want to leave. I would stay there again in a second.

The room rate was reasonable for Key West and the service was excellent. But the restaurant is insanely overpriced and having to pay for parking seems unfair. Wireless internet service very unreliable. My daughter loved the giant fish tank and pool.

Busy, busy hotel, staff is stretched pretty thin, but they still stay friendly, though they are maxed out. A little better preparation for when the hotel is sold out could help.

The breakfast buffet is packed, servers are barely keeping up. I wish they had self service coffee, juice, water in the buffet area, since I had to wait too long to get served and then refills.
Breakfast is average at most, usual eggs, cereal, bacon, oatmeal, grits, etc.
Lobby was always packed, either people checking in or out, or waiting for shuttle. Internet is free. Nicely decorated for Christmas!
The hotel was filled with people from a wedding, a triathlon. It is mostly full of middle age families, retirees, not many young people, so it is not a ‘hip” place.
Young people, honeymooners may feel out of place.

There is a daily fee for parking.

The biggest negative for ME is the hotels location, it is far, on the opposite end of the key from the tourist area, by airport, not near water, beach, tourist area. Key west does not have many beaches, I guess you could go to the closest beach, Smathers, along a busy road, but it would take you a good looong walk, a 5 minute car drive
To help overcome its location, They have a shuttle, leaving on the hour to duval, last one returns back at 11:20pm, it takes 20 minutes each way, if want to stay out later than 11:20pm, a taxi may cost you $20. It was on time, clean, friendly driver.

Hotel has a beachy , country design, blue and white trim, fits well for a beach resort. Well kept, clean, carpets maybe need an upgrade. Rooms are nice, have fridge, ceiling fan, you either get a pool view or parking lot view. Vanity area is outside bathroom, in main room, so it may disrupt you if you are in room sleeping. Elevator traffic is high.
I did like when you turn on TV, it goes directly to movies, not those annoying hotel tv channels with these hard to use remotes that want you to buy pay per view.

Nice stay, friendly staff, don’t expect too much from staff, resources simply are not there. Hotel grounds fine, breakfast experience could greatly improve.

Room Tip: Room has fridge for drinks, there is a deli store adjacent to hotel, use the shuttle bus, be patient...

We were treated like royalty from the minute we arrived. The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful. You need to take the shuttle into town, but, it is always prompt. The drivers are great and will give you lots of guidance on what to see and how to get there. Don't forget to stop by the front desk each night for your fresh, hot cookie!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2011

My significant other and I spent three nights in Key West in late November-early December 2011 and had the chance to stay at the Doubletree Grand Key Resort. It's part of the Hilton family, so we had some Hilton Honors Rewards points to redeem.

Overall, we really liked this hotel. The check-in process was a bit slow because there were others in front of us, but the woman who checked us in was very friendly and helpful. (We appreciated the fresh cookies and water that's a trademark of Doubletree hotels.) We loved the aquarium in the lobby. Our room on the 4th floor had a balcony and overlooked the pool area. The room was very, very nice... a bit smaller than we were expecting, but it was still quite lovely. It was clean and comfortable.

With our rewards points, we were able to take advantage of the buffet breakfast without having to pay extra. (Otherwise, the buffet is $12 per person.) The buffet has a lot of food, and it's easy to overeat... hash browns, sausage, eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt, Belgian waffles, French toast, cereal, and on and on and on. You can be very gluttonous, and I was!!! The servers who help you at the restaurant are generally very attentive and helpful.

One thing that is really nice about this Doubletree is the concierge service that's provided. We were able to use their assistance a few times and very much appreciated it. We were given suggestions for good restaurants, and the woman made a reservation for us for a snorkeling trip.

The pool area is very nice, but we unfortunately didn't have a whole of time to use it. This time of year it gets dark early and it was a little on the chilly side, so all we really did was use the hot tub, although my significant did have the courage to jump into the chilly pool at 8:00 at night. There's an outdoor bar area that's open until 11 p.m., and we enjoyed having adult beverages in the hot tub. Loved it.

Another bonus for this hotel is that, even though it is on the opposite side of the island as all the downtown Key West attractions, there is a free shuttle service that runs every hour to and from downtown. We took advantage of this both full days we were in Key West. Very convenient, and at the end of the night, we loved being dropped off at the front door of the hotel.

The only downside we encountered was the sleep quality of the room. We had trouble sleeping but really couldn't figure out why. The bed was very nice, but maybe it had something to do with the air conditioning that kept turning on and off and on and off throughout the night. For some reason I couldn't get into a comfortable position so that it wasn't blowing directly on my face (which I don't like).

All in all, we highly recommend the Doubletree Grand Key. It's very nice, but you won't find very cheap hotels on the island. It was a decent value for what we paid... relatively speaking.
