“Super Clean!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2010

I really liked this hotel. It was SUPER clean and fresh smelling (inside the room) and with the upgrades done in our room, it was much more than I expected based upon it's rankings and reviews on this site. The beds are Sleep Number beds. There are separate AC units for the L/R and Bedroom in the suites. If you ask, bottles of water at the front desk are FREE. The breakfast was a really nice treat too. The pool is clean and large with ample seating. Parking is free. There is a 24 hour Denny's connected to the hotel, too. I was in Key West searching for lodging options for my wedding, to be held there in Feb 2011. I will place this hotel as a budget option for my guests. Beware, though you will need a car. Duval Street is NOT within walking distance from this area of the island. The drive there is less than 10 mins though. Enjoy and I hope this review helps.

Not my first choice in key west. I booked my trip at the last minute for a couples weekend trip. Everything was booked, so we stay at the comfort inn. The price we paid wasn't that cheap. The have a large pool with a bar. The staff was helpful, even after we made like 100 different requests. Breakfast is included, which is a plus. Its continental food: boiled eggs, two types of cereal, american coffee, pastries, toast. The rooms are small. We had four adults and a baby. We almost couldn't fit the crib. Overall, the hotel is in need of a major update, but its okay if you're first and second choice hotels are not available.

It costs a fortune to stay downtown, and with breakfast included this place was just fine. I'm surprised to see people say the place wasn't clean, our room was perfect. Nice duvets, the mattress was fabulous. Bathroom is spacious and clean. Breakfast is more than adequate for a motel freebie and the staff were continually taking care to make sure that everything was clean, fresh and plentiful. For a Comfort Inn I have no complaints whatsoever. If what you want is the Waldorf Astoria then i suggest you go stay at the Waldorf Astoria.

This place is disgusting. The rooms are small and musty with huge falling down gaps in the ceiling, stains on the floor, and the wall paper peeling off of the walls. We were there over the 4th of July weekend and because we decided to go at the last minute, we were lucky to get this room. Next time, if this is the only place with availability, I will stay home. The carpet is old and filthy with huge snags and runs in it. The tile floor in the bathroom was very dirty and you could see the trails left by the dirty mop. When we used the shower, the water was so slow to drain that by the end of a quick shower, you were standing in about 6 inches of water and soap. The furniture is dilapidated and there were picture hangers in the walls with no pictures on them. The room was just disgusting. That being said, the grounds were nice and the pool area is beautiful. But once you walk into your room, look out!

Anywhere else this property would be considered grossly overpriced but in Key West it was probably reasonable value for money and when you are on a budget, you can't be too choosy. Having said that, the rooms were large and clean, the beds very comfortable and the pool area inviting. The Inn is currently upgrading to a Quality Inn so had a better breakfast than expected for a continental - good value considering it was included in the price. The only problem was that the breakfast area is tiny and there are not enough tables making it a real struggle to comfortably serve yourself and then sit and eat.
Another problem was a permanent puddle at the bottom of the stairs between building 1 & 2 which came from a constant water overflow which meant the bottom stairs were always wet and you got dripped on every time you went up and down. As it had been raining just before we arrived we didn't think much of this at the start, but when the problem continued on unabated into the second day without any more rain, it got annoying. Also the wifi internet is non-existent. Their provider does not seem to be compatible with any modern laptops/netbooks and operating systems and after many calls to the front desk to try and get connection working, we just gave up. I ended up using the computers in the lobby downstairs to complete the essential stuff. We found this same problem at another Quality/Comfort Inn - they need to look into it. We did not find the front desk service overwhelmingly helpful and friendly either - not by comparison with many other places - but we did note that the hotel has a lot of tour buses staying so that could explain the lacklustre attitude.
The location is on the main road when you first come onto Key West so it is quite a long way to all the sights and happenings in the old town but as long as you have a car, it is only a few minutes drive. Also, we noticed the tourist trolley stopped just up the road.

Although this hotel is listed as a Comfort Inn, the marquis outside says “soon to be a Quality Inn” and in our opinion, that’s not a moment too soon. In fact, if there was category lower than Quality Inn, that’s where this place should be ranked. It’s terrible!!

The list of things wrong with it are many:

The rate was over-priced for what we got

The attitude of the front desk – rude and unhelpful

For their “free internet access” they use something called Ethostream. We have a newer laptop (Dell with Windows XP) and use it without any problem at every other hotel…. except for this place. Three calls to Ethostream’s “customer service” told us that the problem was on the hotel’s end and that a techniciain would have to come out and fix it. The front desk denied the problem was theirs and tried to convince us that the problem was “our computer”… which is was not. We ended up with no internet access while we stayed there. Once we left, our computer worked fine and we have not had a problem since then.

The towel rack in our room was broken and considering the “assistance" we received from the front desk staff, it’s not worth reporting.

The shower drain and faucets leaked and there was mildew stains

The carpet was stained the threadworn

The interior of the hotel is shabby

The nicest person was the young man who worked restocking the MEAGER breakfast buffet. He worked very hard and had a smile for everyone. Choice Hotels (the parent company) should make him the hotel manager and fire the staff they had there.

We would never go back there and we would certainly not recommned this hotel to anyone.

This hotel is at the eastern end of Key West so you'll need a car to get to the marina, restaurants and shops. They had a nice gentleman at a desk in the lobby who pointed out places of interest in Key West and gave me a map and pointers on how to get around. The rooms are clean and the service was very nice. Wireless internet was too weak in the room, but it's fine in the lobby and they have a PC available for use. They let you print out your airline boarding pass at no charge. We didn't get to eat at the breakfast as it starts at 7 am and we had to leave before that - I'd like all hotels to start breakfast a 6 am. Coffee was available at all times in the lobby. They do have a safe in the room that you're required to pay $1 a day for. It's a nice feature. The room was clean and comfortable. They are changing this from a Comfort Inn to a Quality Inn - the front desk had a Quality Inn sign on the wall - so I'm guessing it's going to go through some remodeling. You might want to call and ask about that. Parking at the hotel is free, but be warned that parking is hard to find in downtown Key West. If you're going for an all-day boat ride, park in the big covered garage on Caroline Street for $13/day.
