“Perfect for a stay in Key West with the family!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2014 for a stay in April 2014

It was nicely decorated, the location was perfect and there was plenty of space for our family of five. The service team was easy to contact and really really helpfull when we couldnt figure out to open the door (which was actually really easy)

“Love it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2014 for a stay in January 2014

I am sitting in the Freeport Suite now! Cute 3 bed 2 bath. 2 king and 1 with two double beds. No complaints about mattresses. In fact our king is more comfortable than the mattress at home! One full bath with tub/shower and one with smaller shower. Kitchenette has pots and pans, plates, glasses, silverware etc. Dining table with 4 chairs and 2 stools at the island. Couch and 2 chairs in living room. Nicely decorated. Stacked washer and dryer - very convenient - there is no daily maid service. Entry is in the back and up quite a few stairs. Not horrible, but would not recommend for young children, injured or older folks. Small deck or landing at top of stairs has three chairs to lounge on. Free WiFi. Location is awesome! 1 block off Duval with quite a few restaurants within a block. Quiet with a shared backyard that has two grills, and tables. Place was very clean! Owner and site manager were both very nice and acommodating. Worked out perfectly for three couples, we are all very happy and we will return. Highly recommend!

“New Years in Key West”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013 for a stay in January 2013

The Freeport Suite at the Bahama House is a great value and it's clean. The location is perfect! Ben made our first VRBO experience a positive one. The only negative, which is the same negative that many have written, were the beds. I understand why, but the plastic covers are very noisy and caused the sheets to slip. Other than that we would recommend staying there. It was a great New Years Eve in Key West and we hope to return.

“Great house, terrible service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012 for a stay in July 2012

We stayed in the Freeport and Dual Island suites for a weekend. The house was wonderful and the price was of course just right. There were, however, some serious issues in dealing with the property manager.

I called him to let him know that both grills in the back were not working and he was very rude. He mentioned that he hadn't been in Key West for 2 months. I wondered why he was still listed as the property manager if he was not even on the island and hadn't been for some time. He said he would get housekeeping to take care of the grills and that he would call me back but he never did. The other contact never got back to me, either.

On Sunday morning there was a car blocking ours in the driveway. The car had no parking pass and did not appear to belong to anyone staying at the Bahama House (we had already met the people staying in the only other unit rented out that weekend). We called Eddie and he basically refused to help us. He told us that it was not his responsibility to deal with this, and would absolutely not have the car towed. We were on the phone with him for an hour, during which time he was very combative and hung up on us twice. Ben was also not available to deal with the problem. In the end, we had to call the police ourselves to come and tow the car so that we could get ours out of the driveway. This is obviously not something we should have had to deal with on our vacation.

It's a real shame because as I said we loved the house and if not for Eddie, we would happily recommend the rental to anyone and everyone. I don't understand how you could designate a 24-hour property manager who was never available or willing to help, much less even in the area. He seems a bit unstable and I don't think that's the type of person that should be dealing with clients. The office staff was friendly but not accommodating when I called to report the problem the following week. They said they've had many complaints about Eddie but that the property owner refuses to fire him.

“Fun stay, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2011 for a stay in December 2011

Location:
This property is no doubt all about location. It does come w/ one twist that I will reveal later. The positives are that it is centrally located less than one block off Duval St. There was a nicely stocked grocery store (full liquor, meat counter..etc) within steps that we used to help defray some of the costs for meals. Parking was not a problem for us as the rest of the house was empty. If there were other guests staying at the house parking could become a pain. The marina area for many of the various excursions (Fury) was easily walk-able saving us another $10-15 for parking. Now for the "twist" I mentioned earlier. The house is located next to a funeral home. We rented Freeport Suite which is located in the back part of the house with the entrance facing the rear of the funeral home. While leaving the house one night I saw them unloading a body. White van's frequent the next door driveway throughout the day and evening. That may be a problem for some people. As you can tell by my ratings it wasn't such a problem for us however I did NOT mention it to my family.

Condition and Cleanliness:
While we were there the property was currently undergoing construction on the front portion of the house. I would describe the rooms as quaint and similar to grandma's house (circa early 1900's.) There have been several updates made to the Freeport Suite tho it is still a bit "raw". The cleanliness was adequate but there is room for improvement. e.g. Our kids like to walk around barefoot and after a short time the bottom of their feet would be dark gray from the wood floor. Bottom line is that is this an old house, not the Four Seasons in Hawaii. It was more than sufficient for the few hours we actually spent in the home. (The wireless internet did not work however we were able to find other unlocked routers within range.)

Suite:
The location offers more than enough space for family of 5-6. A nice sized living room space that is combined with the kitchen. There were 3 descent sized bedrooms. Two off the kitchen and one off the living room. The appliances seemed reasonable new and in good shape. The dishwasher worked well. The bathrooms were fair though a few additional small shelves or hooks would be a good thing. One of the bathrooms is quite small albeit at times it was nice to have more than one available. The beds were fair. Having a washer and dryer available was a very nice perk. However the washer did have a bit of an odor which could have probably been remedied with a cup of Clorox.

Management:
There is a # to contact Eddie for any issues. All the gas grills were out of gas when we arrived. I placed a call to Eddie and he promptly replaced the gas tank the following day. The people online are not very responsive once you make your reservation. I asked a couple questions a few days prior to arrival and never received a response.

Exterior:
The exterior and backyard are a bit rough though they are good enough for a simple stay. The pictures on the website are a bit flattering.

Summary:
We found the place quaint and a bit like visiting your grandma and grandpa's old house. I would recommend this place to those that aren't overly fussy and can deal with a few minor issues. The location is truly ideal and unique and makes it all worthwhile.

“Perfectly located and lots of room!”

I found this rental right before we booked a hotel and I am super glad I did. Stayed here with 3 other guys and this place was perfect. We all had a place to sleep and it was nice with 2 bathrooms. It did seem warm in the house, but it is Key West and it was central air so no window unit to super cool down a room. All in all it is a fantastic deal and super close to everything, even the port if you take the boat in. We are already planning a trip back in August!

“Great location, does the job, no frills...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2011 for a stay in February 2011

No problems but there were some ants in the suite. Parking worked out but was a bit of concern since you share a one-way driveway with other guests in the house. Location was fantastic. Freeport suite was suitable. Exterior not very impressive. One regular size bathroom and one with a very small sink. It did the job of giving us a place to shower and sleep with a great location and it was clean for the most part. No frills. You cannot beat the location for the price. If you're looking for luxurious accommodations this is not your place.
