So glad we had done some wreck diving earlier in the week with a different, excellent shop, or I would have attributed Seaduction's shortcomings to a laid-back Keys vibe. I did like their informative and attractive website, Seaduction's willingness to schedule a 2 tank "double dip" dive trip to the Vandenberg wreck, Dorothy's timely and helpful email correspondence before our trip, the free parking, clean shop restroom, the convenience of having their dive boats parked right next to the shop, the idea of the eco-friendly biodiesel powered boat, the ice cold bottled water on the boat, the knowledgeable and courteous captain and guide, and the clean rinse tank. However, I disliked their apparent disorganization in carrying out their rule about divemasters vs guides- they required us to pay $30 extra per person in advance for a guide, only to find that on the day of the dive the divemaster did not know was also supposed to be our 'guide', so they appeared understaffed, with 3 'guided' divers with the DM/guide, 3 other divers on their own in the water, and 1 non-diver on the boat with the captain. I also disliked the condition of their rental equipment-1 BCD had a faulty tank strap, tanks had leaky first stages, 1 regulator breathed hard, and 1 weight belt was so thick it was difficult to thread thru weights and twist, while 1 weight belt was so thin and worn the twists came untwisted and the buckle was faulty (and those problems were not evident until boarding the boat because the weights were stored on the boat). And while the crew responded readily to requests, they were not as proactive as most customer-service oriented dive shops in interacting with customers, offering to help with gear set up, or in assisting divers in exiting the boat with gear via gangplank once back at the shop. Diving the Vandenberg had been on my Bucket List for years, so I am sad that my memories are less than glowing.....
