“Very cute place, nice stay...but small”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2013 for a stay in September 2013

This is an adorable little place. The decor is cute. I liked that it has it's own hot tub and little patio. It also has a spiral staircase leading to the roof where there are chairs where you can lay out. We loved that and went up there to hang out quite a bit. The pool area is very cute as well, but it is a small pool, and keep in mind that you are sharing it with the 5-6 other units in this complex. The kitchen was nice and nice TVs downstairs & up, but our downstairs one did get messed up and they came to repair it quickly for us. The only problem I would say is that this place is very small. It is good for a couple of people, but definitely not 4. We had 3 ladies, on a girls trip. There is no separate room. The queen bed is on the second floor under a triangle roof. It is open to the downstairs. You can't stand up in the room unless standing in the middle where the roof goes the highest. And even then, a guy wouldn't be able to stand up. The closets are 1/2 closets and the full length mirror is 1/2. The stairs are steep and when I got up there, I just crawled into bed. Still, it was cute, like I said, and that's fine for a short trip... but it was not made for 3. The sofa bed was uncomfortable. She slept ok only if positioned a certain way on it. But it is def. Not going to be comfortable for 2 people to sleep on. The bathroom was also tiny...one at a time for sure. And I can't imagine a big guy fitting on that toilet! Like I said, cute place, clean, had everything we needed, but more space in our room would have been nice & a full closet/mirror. Also, you are like 5-6 blocks from Sloppy Joes, etc.. There is very little parking...you have to get lucky there. We drove around for a while, then finally parked. We decided that it would be best to get an electric car bcs otherwise we would be stressed about parking all weekend. That was a great decision, and made the trip. Get the car...it is so worth it. Love Key West & miss you already!!

“Great Location, needs work.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012 for a stay in October 2012

We'd stayed at Conch Casa the previous two times we were in Key West, and decided to try something else as that unit has a teeny kitchen area and the pool is a some distance away.

The two best points of the place are the pool is on site, and the sitting area is large, with a nice sized kitchen. I'm still deciding if we'll return to this suite.

The minuses (these weren't broken things, but built in stuff, so I saw no point in contacting the management for fixes): The ice maker didn't work. I'm a "fix it" person, so I pulled out the ice tray and dumped the ice out to see if I could make it work. It wasn't until I did that that I spotted the sign on the outside of the frige that said "ice maker doesn't work." The next day, after the ice tray was filled, I noticed that the water line was leaking and made a stalagmite of solid ice, blocking the mechanism. Okay. Refrigerator should be replaced.

The only bathroom in the unit is adjacent to the kitchen, At least we didn't really do any cooking in the kitchen, it would have been weird. The bedroom is up a steep flight of stairs. The stairs are a bit problematic as the very first stair tread from the top isn't as deep as the rest. You don't notice it climbing up, but I nearly tumbled the first time I went down. You've got to place your foot very carefully on that first step. At least the banister is sturdy. The air conditioner in the bedroom is as loud as a diesel truck. You can't exactly turn it off because you roast being up near the roof. Oh, and the roof is right there. You can't stand up next to the bed, but have to bend over or sit down to avoid bumping your head. There isn't a full length mirror in the whole place. It would be nice to have one near the door.

We only used the private Jacuzzi twice as we prefer to sit in the hot tub after dark, but because of the motion activated security light mounted on the building, we got spotlighted when we were out there. It felt like we were being interrogated. The light shone right in our faces in the hot tub. NOT very romantic or cozy. The private deck could use some "style" it felt very trailer park. Just a plastic table and four chairs. A black plastic ashtray on the table really set the trailer park theme. Adding a planter out there (maybe a bamboo to shield the Jacuzzi from the security light) would have made the deck feel more "special."

Bicycle parking in the complex got to be tough once all the residents had bikes. Quite the tangle. At least there was room to put our bikes on our porch.

We liked the sitting area and the big TV. The sofa was comfy. Having a second TV upstairs was nice when he wanted to watch sports, and I didn't. We did notice that my remote would change the channel on the TV downstairs.

We'll probably look at one of the other units in the same complex before deciding to repeat in Sunset Suite. It is a nice unit, reasonably priced. It has some quirks, but it is comfortable and convenient to Old Town.

Thank you for your comments. You brought this to our attention during your stay and the first 2 items were immediately rectified. The ice maker is in the door and a new spring was needed to dispense from the door. This is now fixed. We do hope you return to visit us again, problems do occur in homes but our staff tries to fix them as soon as they occur. Stay warm!

Hi Buddy Boy's Mom, hope you are having a great weekend!
We were just wondering why you only gave us a 1 star rating...is there something we can do to improve Sunset Suite?

“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2009 for a stay in July 2009

We originally wanted to stay in the Honeymoon Hideaway but it was not available...boy are we glad we ended up staying at the Sunset Suite instead! It was very spacious for the two of us and our dog. Very spacious, relaxing, and just perfect. It was within walking distance of everything. We would definitely come back for another visit.
