I have had a bad experience with the Tropical Inn and I would like to warn others of their very strict cancellation polices.
My friend and I were visiting Key West for the fist time to celebrate a 40Th Birthday. We chose The Tropical Inn because the website was beautifully done, serene gardens and cozy feel with tropical music playing in the background we really felt this was the best place to stay to have a lasting memory of our first trip to Key West. We even download the song "Grooving " which was the song played through out their web tour.
We book a room on July 11th and due to unforeseen medical condition (Kidney Stones) we were unable to complete our travel plans. My partners Doctor and Nurse both advised her not to travel during this time of passing the Stone they could be quiet painful to pass. From the time we had booked the reservation to the time we needed to cancel the reservation was approximately 12 days. .The Tropical Inn would not refund our deposit of $400.00 unless someone would rent the room for the same amount of days. The Tropical Inn response was “Our policy stands for a refund you had to. have canceled within our 1 month cancellation period (and we were not able to resell your room), your deposit of $401.40 is forfeited.” Jane Lowe Owner of the Tropical Inn didn’t even offer us a credit to stay at another time.
What happened to laid back Key West? Is this how you handle tourism in paradise? This is our first experience with the B&B industry and we now know to Beware before you render your credit card. Properties set their own policies; some are stricter than others. To our disappointment this incident has put a bad taste in our mouths for Key West and for the Tropical Inn.
