“loved it!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

We stayed at the Tropical Inn in for 5 days in April in the Key Lime Loft, and it was wonderful! We had never stayed at a B&B before, and were a little wary, but it was more like a boutique hotel than a typical bed and breakfast. The hosts were very accessible, but really respected our privacy. Brandy was the best. She answered all our questions and helped make all our plans for dinners and excursions, including taking care of the reservations. She really made our trip amazing and stress free. The location of the Inn can't be beat- right in the middle of Duval Street. Walk out the front door and you're in the action-steps from restaurants, bars and shops. Walk out the back door and you're in the most tranquil shaded garden oasis with a pool tucked away. Certainly the antidote to Duval Street. I highly recommend the Key Lime Loft. It's very cozy and clean, but the best part is the private deck. We ate breakfast on the deck each morning, and relaxed there each night before bed. This was our first trip to Key West, and we're looking forward to coming again and staying at the Tropical Inn.

Pros:
Great location: It's right in the middle of Duval Street, so you are within walking distance of most everything you'd want to see (nightlife, Southernmost point, Mallory Square, the harbor). It's also a block from the Hemingway house.

Isolated feel (in a good way): Despite being right in the middle of Duval, once you step off the street, you feel like it is a different world. There is a beautiful garden/pool area that is a great place to spend an afternoon around just relaxing. The pool is great too, it doesn't seem to be heated, so it is pleasantly cool rather than warm and a great way to cool off when the heat gets a little too much.

Price: It isn't cheap, but it doesn't seem that anything in Key West is. We looked at a number of other places, and this seemed to be right in range. It seems that about $200 a night (during April) is about the minimum you need to spend in Key West to get a room that will be clean. We decided to spend a bit more and stay here, and we felt that we really got our money's worth. I don't think you'll be blown away by the value, but we felt that it didn't cost that much more to stay and was really worth the relatively small amount extra.

Extras: Speaking of extras, two little things that I loved. Firstly, the morning breakfast. Fresh fruit, bagels, yogurt, and a different 'main' dish each day. When we were there, it was a bacon spinach quiche and a mango danish. Apparently in Key West, to serve a full breakfast you have to have a full kitchen, or something to that effect. So here, there is an expanded continental breakfast, and it's really everything you need. I like to eat a big breakfast, and it did me just fine. Secondly, there is a small fridge that is stocked with beer/soft drinks/water for use for all of the guests. Beers are $2 and everything else $1. And not just Bud Lights either, I saw a Guinness, Corona Lights, etc. I just thought that was great, whether it be for just having a relaxing drink by the pool, or a couple before heading out to dinner. You don't have to worry about finding a convenience store and picking up something and then getting it cold, it's just right there for you. A little thing that I really loved!!

Room: We stayed in the Mango Summer room. Very clean, nicely decorated, and really everything you would need.

Cons: I guess the only thing I can think of is the parking. There is none specific to the hotel, but that seems like a reasonable expectation given the very central location. You can park on the street for free, or across the street in a lot for $20. Personally, I didn't find the parking that hard to find, but maybe I was just lucky. We parked on a street running parallel to Duval, that was just a block to the south.

Overall, a great little place right in the heart of Old Key West, and we'd totally stay again.

Room Tip: The Mango Summer room was perfect for us. A stay in the one of the suites probably would be great...

My wife and I decided to go to Key West for our anniversary celebration. So many good things about the inn. It's right on Duvall so once we had parked the car it never moved. We stayed at the Pineapple Hideaway which gave us both the opportunity to mix with the other guest and to have complete privacy when we desired it. The gardens are spectacular behind the main building are spectacular, the pool is perfect and the staff is so accommodating. The only real problem we had was that we had to leave after only a short visit. We would have preferred to stay longer. When we return to Key West, as we often do, we will definitely return to the Tropical Inn.

Room Tip: The Pineapple Hideaway and the Gecko Garden cottages really enhance your stay.

We were in Key West in March and had a good fortune of staying at Tropical Inn.
What a gem! The garden is beautiful and the hospitality even more wonderful. Sitting in the backyard you would never know that this place is right on Duval St. The bike rental right on sight was so convenient and allowed us to ride everywhere on the island. The lunch outing to the Sunset Key was definitely worth it. And the plays, Drowsy Chaperone at Waterfront Playhouse was a top notch production. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
Lunch at the Southernmost Hotel was so much fun facing the beach.
What a wonderful place to go to get away from winter.
Will definitely be back!

Room Tip: We stayed in Bamboo room. And since this room does not face the street it was fairly quiet.

We stayed at The Tropical Inn 5 years ago on our honeymoon, and returned in March, 2013. It is our favorite Inn in Key West .... beautiful gardens, charming decor in all rooms, and the staff is great. They are very helpful and friendly with anything you need. The Pineapple Hideaway is so quaint and cozy ... wish we had stayed more than 2 nights. We will return to this lovely B&B.

Although you're right on Duval in the heart of the fun in Key West, the seclusion of this tropical paradise is astounding. My wife booked us for my birthday and was only able to do a couple of nights and had to split the stay between the Gecko Garden Cottage and the Pineapple Hideaway Cottage. It was wonderful to have been able to "sample" both cottages for future bookings. The staff moved our belongings seamlessly while we enjoyed getting some sun by the pool, surrounded by lush tropical plants, orchids and trees. It literally oozes romance and really is a must for couples who want to enjoy the "wonders" of Key West and then retreat back to romantic seclusion to recharge. The accommodations are modern and well thought out, the staff is five star and the location couldn't be better. We look forward to visiting regularly.

Room Tip: The Gecko Garden cottage is closer to the pool, has a sunken hot tub in the courtyard and has a king...

This was our second time staying at this gem on Duvall St! Everyone in this family run B&B is friendly and so very nice. Rooms are great, breakfast is just perfect, pool area comfortable..what more can I say? We rent the bikes available on-site (very convenient!) and ride to the different beaches to kick back and relax...all kinds of lotions and beach towels right there at the Inn! No need to haul your own! They even have a "mini bar" on your honor system (rather on your karma system!)

We will be back! Such an easy place to stay.

Room Tip: A variety of rooms available! Depends on your style...
