“Two night stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

We stayed two nights at the Heron, my wife and I had very different views of this place and my review splits the differences. I would go with a 4 star she would go with a two star. The grounds and pool were very nicely kept and the staff was helpful and professional. We had a room with two queens on the second floor. The room had a small fridge, a safe, 2 bath robes, a Sony iPod dock and a 19" tube TV with remote. The room was clean and well kept and the bathroom had nice towels soap, etc. Nicely cared for and well appointed room. The issue my wife had was that the room had a "musty smell" and she believed this was unhealthy and was uncomfortable with it. We did not talk to staff about it so can't comment on their view, we opened the windows after the first night but the smell persisted. Many people might not be bothered at all but some would.

Beautiful, well-maintained, quiet location but very close to all the action. Friendly staff, decent breakfast. Our room is very comfortable and clean. Secure, gated courtyard. Not a cookie-cutter hotel. Laid out so that each space has a unique feel to it.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Heron House. This was our first time there and would return in a heartbeat. We arrived early, but was able to leave our luggage with them. When we returned to check-in, our luggage was already in our room. The room was spacious and the bed was firm. The common areas - pool and breakfast - were all very nice and well kept. They offered the standard continental breakfast each day with a hot dish available. The location was awesome - 500 block of Simonton - so close to the action, yet quite. I would highly recommend the Heron House to anyone who asks.

On a recent trip to Key West, my girlfriend and I decided to stay at the Heron House on Simonton Street. This is a quiet, beautiful property that is well maintained. Jeffrey Brannin, the General Manager, and his staff are wonderful! They were friendly and extremely helpful during our stay. We were in Room 5, which is a Garden Room, and it had its own private porch. The room was so nice that we both felt as though we were staying in a private home. We plan on coming back to Key West in the Spring and will definitely stay at Heron House. We wouldn't stay any place else!

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 5 which had its own private patio!

I love historic hotels/inns and I am accustomed to small ans even dated rooms. However, this one, at least our room, #14, is not recommended. It has a terrilble moldy odor that clung to every item we had in the room. The fan in the room did not help at all. The french doors to a terrace were charming, but had a large enough gap to allow the mosquitos We killed many mosquitos every night and were bitten many times by something (?).

Sorry, we will find another place next trip.

Room had a terrible smell. Although you could sit by pool after dusk you could not swim. One of the two front desk attendants gave me the impression he was unhappy with his career choice, because when asked for any type of assistance he was very rude with short one word answers.

Room Tip: go elsewhere

Loved the Heron House. This was our first trip to Key West and we loved it! Great location, nice room and lush private quiet grounds. We stayed in the junior suite and it was perfect. Wonderful free breakfast! Will return to Heron House again!
