I used my frequent stay points with Choice Hotels so I didn't pay any cash for the room. This is the only Choice Hotel property at Key West, and it was OK, but if I was paying I'd stay elsewhere. The beds and pillows weren't very comfortable and the property is dated. Location is OK, close to the beaches. Value for the points paid was terrible, 20,000 points per night. I've stayed ocean front in a very nice suite in Virginia Beach for that amount, but they have no competition in KW for Choice point stays. Staff was nice and there was a concierge in the lobby which was convenient for booking a tour. Wireless internet was at times slow, and signal varied. Next trip to Key West I'll probably stay elsewhere though.

Stayed at the Comfort Inn Key West the first week of November. It's a moderately rated property so I don't know why people expect the red carpet treatment. The hotel is older but then again, most hotels within the Choice Hotel chain are. The price was around $110.00/night plus tax which I thought was reasonable considering all the other hotels in Key West were over $180.00/night plus tax! You can easily get to Duval Street either by driving, and parking there...there is a parking lot on Simonton near the Blond Giraffe for $10.00 all day, or take the Key West Trolley...information can be obtained in the Welcome Center next door to the hotel.

The room was average, a little wear and tear, but nothing to cry about. The bathroom could have used a little more cleaning, but again....beach/ocean destination...there will be some sand/dirt.

Continental breakfast was wonderful! Waffle maker, coffee, bagels, pastries, toast, hard boiled eggs, fruit, juice, milk, cereal, etc. Plenty of tables to sit at as well.

Just another FYI, this is an outdoor entrance hotel. Your door leads directly outside...no hallways/corridors to walk down in the interior of the hotel.

I laughed when we pulled into the parking lot, as their marquee sign said "stay here, make your own waffles" -- what kind of a selling point is that? But we'd already paid for the room, so we didn't have a choice. The lobby is fine, and the staff fairly nice, but the room was dirty and outdated. The bathroom was particularly offensive, with grungy tile, and a floor that wasn't thoroughly cleaned. Water pressure was terrible. Bedspreads were frightening. There is a free continental breakfast, but the coffee is terrible. I would suggest staying somewhere else.

Very clean. The Comfort Inn is getting a little old, but the warmth of the staff certainly made up for any issues I saw.

Excellent touches, the pool area was immaculate, the breakfast nook was superb. Easily a $10 pp breakfast on this island. Waffles, coffee, bagels danish, cereal. 4 toasters. little to no wait. Fresh coffee, juice, literally a very nice meal for all types of appetites.

The paper at the door every morning was an extra unexpected touch.

Everything in the room worked, no issues with leaks, bugs, or any unsightly or inconveniently broken items.

the parking seemed a bit crowded, but there was plenty. We parked easily in the front in a very well lit area for our stay.

Only reason I wouldn't give it an Excellent rating is just plain age and location. Although not an issue if you know Key West OR can ride a bicycle, the Comfort Inn is located away from the craziness of Duval Street. We picked it for just that reason, and the stay there was rewarding.

The bicycle vendor in their parking lot was excellent, accomodating, and had reasonable charges.

“Beware of Manager Tricks and Bait and Switch on Reservations”

Comfort Inn

Oct 28, 2007

We were not expecting a 5 Star Hotel as its just a Comfort Inn. As we checked in we were Greeted by Nice Friendly Staff.

CON 1 They wanted to upcharge our room from our booking. The Clerk said only our FIRST night was at the Booked Rate. The Clerk was nice thru-out the whole deal and got the Manager for us.

CON 2 The Manager stated same thing, I showed him our Comformation from Choice and he gave us the rates we booked.
Under the Choice booking and our spec-rate we were able under the Booking to extend up to 7 days at the same rate, This did not happen the Manager would not Honor our request for one extra night thru our Choice Program. He did however state the room was open if we wanted to pay as a walk in client at a Higher rate. almost 3 times higher than our booking rate.

I think from reviews here and other webs This is a common trick this Hotel uses. Choice NEEDS to Review there Status.

Our room was in the back of Hotel ground floor. Our room was not the clean room you would expect. There was a Hairball in the Tub Drain stopping it up so when showering it did not drain. Staff did respond and clear the drain.quickly I might add.
Our sheets were Stained and smelled, They appeared to had been washed but still smelled. Room service DOES knock early like at 7 am so use the DND sign on the door if you want to sleep in.
PROS Short of the Manager, All Staff we dealt with were Friendly Smiled and Housekeeping was pleasant also .
I would not book this Hotel again due to there Booking and and up-rate Scams. We would sleep on a park Bench before getting ripped off.

Rumors: We heard From Staff that this Hotel will close in April 2008. I would expect Service will decline as time nears.

Cabs from Keywest Airport to Comfort Inn 2 people $11.00 + a tip
Not too bad at all. Cabs However to oldtown range a lot more. We rode the City Bus system to old keywest, use the Green. blue and Red lines Only downfall is last bus out of old town is just after 10PM,Cabs cost a avg. of 20 bucks per person if you elect to stay later . The Bus-stop just in front of Comfot Inn is the Orange line, You will need to walk 5-6 blocks just past Hwy 1 to the stop in Front of the VA Clinic to catch the blue, green and red lines. keywest City Bus System is in the middle of changing there routes at this time look them up on the web and print out a current route system if you plan to use there services. There costs are .50 cents for Seniors and a $1.00 for others at this time. Cheap way to get around keywest ! and the A/C works great on there Buses.
