“Must do in KW”

Not the biggest house or museum you will ever visit but very interesting tour conducted by knowledagable guides. If you are allergic to cats, give it a miss.

“A lovely diversion while in Key West!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

The tour could have had fewer people. But they run by a time schedule, rather than by any sort of ticket.

As a cat person, I enjoyed visiting with a few of them. Learned a good way to get a chance to get to know any of the feline residents: Sit yourself down on a bench or chair and look dis-interested. A cat may well rub up against your legs, or even hop into your lap.

Thank you for your review. Glad to see a cat-person on the property. You are right, act dis-interested and they will be interested in you. Hope you had a safe return to Maryland and will visit us again.

“Take the Time.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

We were glad we took the time to take the tour of Hemingway's House. As other reviewers have said, it is well priced at $13, and $13 doesn't go far in Key West. The tours are not on a schedule, but are given when the group appears large enough. We waited about 10 minutes, although we roamed the house prior to the tour.

The tour group moves room to room, the guide giving only a brief explanation of each room and a bit of history - it is face paced. After the guide's explanation, he allows the guests to linger in the room to look at the photos, letters, etc. The guide informs the group which room or area is next on the tour. When the group gathers in the next room, the guide continues.

We found the tour very enjoyable with just enough information on Hemingway's life to make us want to research more on our own. Very nicely done - a nice mix of guided and solo touring.

Thank you for the review. Glad to see your detailed account of how the tour is conducted here. We are also glad to see your perspective that a half hour tour will highlight information and that there is an enormous amount of additional information about Hemingway that one should research if they wish to really get into the history of this author's life and times. Please visit our web site at HemingwayHome.com, there you will find information and hyperlinks to more detailed information.

“A must do!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

We visited the Hemingway home during our recent trip. We really enjoyed it. Our tour guide was great. We learned a lot about Hemingway. The thing we enjoyed the most were the cats. They were everywhere and so sweet. Several of them came running to us. We also thought it was neat that the cats can come and go inside the house if they want. During our tour Frances the cat was curled up in Hemingway's bed. They said it was her favorite spot. We all really enjoyed our visit!!

“Interesting butnover-priced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

Loved the cats and the gardens and a good diversion from before-noon cocktails but well over priced at $13 each

Thank you for the review. The admission price does support the 160 year old mansion, upkeep of the 1-acre of grounds and gardens, staff and world class care of the 44 polydactyl cats. You will find that the Hemingway Home in Oak Park IL that formerly was available as a public museum has sold and is now privately owned and not available to the public. Our admission price is needed to support our efforts to keep the Hemingway Home in Key West open to the public.
