“Engaging in a variety of ways”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

The come-on out front is really corny and continues inside in a more informative manner. But the overall is good. Lots of information on wreckers and their work if you take the time to read the exhibits and view the videos. Even the guys making changes to the exhibit initiated conversation. Don't forget the film downstairs. And the view from the tower is fine. Too bad it's not open til sunset. The $12 admission is much more worth it than spending $4.75 for a Key Lime float (one small scoop ice cream and cheap lime drink) at the ice cream/juice stand 15 feet away.

Not much here. I'd go the pirate place instead next time.

Was a disappointment. Not all that many exciting artifacts. Waste of $12.

“If you love history, don't miss this museum!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2010

This is a fabulous collection of artifacts from a wreck of a Spanish vessel from the early 1600s. Amazing wealth of materials with an excellent narrative adjacent to each.

“Not that interesting”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2008

My husband and I went to the wreckers museum and weren't very impressed. The museum is basically two small rooms with artifacts in them. There is a guy dressed up like a historical wrecker who talks in the first room for about 10-15 minutes. After that, you walk around the other rooms by yourself looking at artifacts, and they have videos you can watch, which didn't seem particularly interested. As an adult, I thought the museum/tour was only mildly interesting, and the fact that the tour guide was "in character" during his schpiel was hokie. There were some kids on the tour, and they didn't seem that excited about it either. The only good thing was going up in the tour, which gives you a great view of the island and is a good photo op.
