“Treated like a celebrity, best location in whole Key West”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

Went here on a getaway weekend To catch some sun. They valet your car and take care of you immediately, showing you the hotel and taking your baggage to your room for you. We stayed in the delux oceanfront room and got the "return to paradise package". it was over 600/night but included free breakfast at their fine dining restaurant Hot Tin Roof, and enough drink tickets to make your stay a real party. WORTH EVERY. SINGLE. PENNY!!!
The room itself was AMAZING. Absolutely amazing. First thing you see when you walk in is a huge jacuzzi tub on a platform with a cute little minibar set up (top shelf liquor of course), and then your eye goes to the bed which is also big and so comfortable. Then you see the balcony and your breath is taken away. Our balcony overlooked sunset pier (the pier where everyone in key west goes for the sunset and then the sunset celebration) and right out onto the ocean. Forget about having to squeeze your way onto the pier for sunset...... Your balcony is first class seats to the show.
Here's what we did- we ordered a bunch of food and while we waited for it to be delivered, went to the bar and stocked up on free drinks and brought it back to our room. When the server brought our meal, he put a white table cloth on our balcony table, complete with flowers In a vase and individual condiments for both of us. TALK ABOUT CELEBRITY TREATMENT!!!! See attached pix. Then we sat, dined, and watched the sunset. Unobstructed views for photos of the sunset, which is really quite something special in key west.
Then we went down, walked around the sunset celebration, went back and fired up that jacuzzi tub! This place is so relaxing we slept for twelve hours the first night there.
Would I recommend this place. YES AND YES. We will not stay anywhere else ever in Key West. We were treated like celebrities and the location is unreal, the staff is crazy amazing and attentive and I loved every single second while I was there. Go here and you will never regret it !!!
(Oh and another thing, after we were done with our jacuzzi bath, a maid came and knocked on our door not even ten minutes later to offer us more towels. THAT'S service if I've ever seen it!!!)

Room Tip: Splurge and get an ocean front room. Worth every single penny.

Hotel is perfect. Great location, within walking distance of everything. At end of Duval St. where everything happens. I usually get ocean view. This time chose street view and really liked it. Much cheaper rms., plus you don't get hot afternoon sun - your balcony will be in shade. You still get partial ocean view. Clean rooms, beds are great and staff always helpful. They have 3 bars to enjoy sunset celebration nightly. Highly recommend this one.

We spent one evening at the Ocean Key Resort in Key West on our way to Little Palm Island this year. This was our first stay at Ocean Key. We reserved a Deluxe Oceanfront Guestroom, which we found had a wonderful king sleigh bed and an oversized marble Jacuzzi tub. From our private balcony, we had a beautiful view of the Gulf, albeit the suite's balcomy was located directly over the pool and bar below, and therefore we spent little time out there - apart from having morning coffee when the pool was empty.

The room itself was beautifully appointed and very light. I would make the suggestion that the hotel provide extra shelf or counter space on either side of the bathroom double sink, as there is really no place for personal toiletries. The private glassed in marble shower was wonderful with a very substantial massaging water flow. The only downside to the room was the slightly moldy scent that we smelled upon entering. We have experienced this before in ocean front rooms, and perhaps it is associated with the salt air. Nevertheless, I would add something akin to the incredible 'Cocoa-Mango' scents that the Ocean Key's sister resort, Little Palm Island, has ever present in their rooms. It is an intoxicatingly wonderful and fresh smell.

We also learned that the exercise room was directly below our suite, and some overly zealous early riser (6:am) was dropping dumbells on the floor, sounding like construction workers. I was ready to drop a few dumbells on the clown after 30 minutes, but fortunately the hotel staff had been alerted by another occupant's complaints, and the bozo was asked to cease his thoughtless routine.

The best part of the Ocean Key Resort is it's marvelous location right on Mallory Square, where stunning sunsets are merged with campy acrobats and street performers for the evening entertainment. The resport is also located at the foot of Duval Street, where all the shops and 'Key Action' abounds. One Suggestion for morning eats... get a cab or walk to the 'Blue Heaven' restaurant... about 20 minute walk... a favorite of the locals, and the best breakfast I've had in years. The restaurant is an outdoor and very casual eatery, with kickbutt breakfast selections, great dark roast coffee, and wild chickens running all over the place. We loved it!!

Room Tip: The Deluxe Ocean Front Guestrooms are pricey, and are located in an annex building off the main hote...

We stayed here for 5 nights and enjoyed everything about it. The location is excellent and the food at Hot Tin Roof was excellent. The beds are probably the most comfortable I have experienced in any hotel. The staff from the front desk to the wait staff at the restaurant were very nice and extremely helpful We will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: If you get a room overlooking Mallory Square, the view is terrific but you may have a bit of noise f...

I recently stayed here with a friend where we capped off a golf holiday with a trip down the Keys for some fishing and relaxing. We were recommended this hotel by the concierge at the Four Seasons Miami, so we rolled into the resort with (in retrospect) some fairly ambitious expectations of the hotel. When we booked our room, our concierge in Miami (we were with her at the concierge desk when she booked) explained that she has two male friends who are warpping up a golf vacation and are looking to stay at the hotel. They explained that they had two rooms that could accommodate us: One room had two double or queen beds and a sitting area, with a sunset view (@300$) and the other room had a king sized bed and a sofa-bed, with a partial sunset view (@200$). When we arrived to the hotel, after waiting OVER 30 MINUTES FOR A PARKING LOT ATTENDANT TO LET US IN TO PARK OUR CAR (which is a confusing little lot to get into when you first arrive there, as there are no signs directing you), we went to check-in, where we were escorted up to our room. We were surprised when we were escorted to a room that had ONE KING BED (no pull out, no sofa, no space for an extra bed) and NO VIEW (I think the view was of the road outside the hotel). We immediately explained that this must be an error (we booked the day before too, and spent @20 minutes on the phone via our concierge in Miami booking the place, so I was surprised that they completely dropped the ball), and they said that they would 'do their best to accommodate, but the hotel is near capacity'. Fortunately, they were able to find us a room, but it ended up being a the room with the sofa-bed and the partial view, and they TRIED TO CHARGE US THE 300$ RATE. However, after discussion they quickly changed the price and actually offered us some restaurant credit, which was appropriate, especialy because this ordeal chewed up @2 hours.
The room itself was clean and the bed and sofa-bed were both comfortable, but the bathroom was poorly lit and dingy. I don't think I would go in the 'whirpool tub' if I was there with my wife because it looked dirty and scuffed. We had a little balcony that was overlooking a giant parking lot, and while it did provide access to the sun's rays, the chairs were really uncomfortable, so we couldn't stay out for long. The PROS to the room were a comfortable sofa, working flat screen tv with access to movies and turndown service that replenished our bottled water.
Despite having a room that was off in the corner, the doors were not soundproof and we could hear a lot of outside noise from our room, at all times of the day.
The saving grace to the hotel was the concierge, Oksana. She was INCREDIBLE; knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. She helped us to arrange an AWESOME DEEP-SEA FISHING ADVENTURE on short notice (basically got us a private boat for 4 hours with an AWESOME CAPTAIN: Captain Colin), and as soon as we got back from fishing with our catch (some tasty mackerel), she greeted us at the pier and brought our fish to the restaurant, where the chef USED OUR CATCH TO MAKE SOME OF THE BEST FISH TACOS I HAVE EVER EATEN IN MY LIFE!! Oksana also made great recommendations for places to get some Cuban sandwiches, tasty breakfast and great dessert.
I was dissappointed by the fact that there really aren't any good beaches to walk to from the hotel, and the hotel pool wasn't that impressive to keep us there; it was quite small and crowded; and effectively too noisy and cramped to make appropriate use of it (i.e., soak up some rays and relax).
Overall, I feel that we got what we paid for (200 bucks a night on a weekend for a partial ocean view on the tip of the Keys) but nothing more. Moreover, the advertisements of the hotel (their website, the pamphlets, etc.) were a little bit misleading, as the hotel was not as up-to-date, clean and quiet as it was advertised. While ther restaurants offered a great view, they were overpriced, and while the fish tacos the kitchen made from our fresh catch were FANTASTIC, they gave us insight into how 'fresh' the fish was that we had in our earlier meals there (i.e., not nearly as tasty as our fish tacos, so clearly not nearly as fresh!)...
Anyhow, if it weren't for Oksana at the concierge desk, I would have given this resort 2 stars.

Room Tip: Ask for a high level and when you are given a room with 'sunset views', ask them how much...

Stayed here one night (unfortunately) and did not want to leave. Tanner and Charlie were extremely helpful during the check in/out process. The hotel is conveniently located near Duval Street so its easy to walk around to sight see. The Sunset Pier is amazing as you can get a great view of the sunset and there is live music which was enjoyed by everyone at the pier bar. I will definitely be back and let everyone know that Ocean Key is the place to stay in Key West.

We travel the world and it is our passion. We gauge our hotel choices based on the amount of time we will spend at the hotel and the amenities we are looking for during our stay. In other words, we pay for four or five star when it fits with our vacation goals. We chose this hotel in Key West because it offers a chance to get away from the often "Bourbon Street atmosphere" of Duval Street -- an important feature in this historic area of town. Also, it appeared on the website that the hotel is more spacious than it really is and we found that very appealing.

We had reserved an ocean view room, but when we arrived at our room it overlooked a part of Duval Street that is a valet parking stand, a scooter rental, and a taxi stand. If we craned our necks we had a great view of the glass bottom boat rental sign that was in front of our "ocean view." When I called the front desk to complain I was informed that they consider this to be an ocean view---at approximately $400.00 per night. I informed them that this was unacceptable and, after waiting about 30 minutes and reminding them that they were wasting a third of our stay with even one night in this room, we were told that we would be relocated the next day between noon and 3pm to an upgraded room That was after the desk clerk tried to tell me that there wasn't anything they could do and nothing would be guaranteed, but she would "do her best." The room we ended up with was nice and much improved over the first one, but the overall feel just misses the mark for a four star. Part of this description I realize is part of the Key West experience, but not at $400.00 per night; not for us at least.

Some things to consider if you decide to stay here:

Live music plays until at least 7pm so you will hear it whether you want to or not.
Cruise ships park very close to the property so you will have a partial view of that until about 5pm each day. Not a big deal for us, but just an FYI.
There is much more of a party atmosphere between 5 and 8pm than we expected in proximity to our room. You can't really avoid it because of the proximity of the ocean view rooms to the Sunset Grille.
This hotel is located at the gulf side of Duval street so you will be walking approximately 2 miles to reach the ocean side. We prefer to walk so this isn't a problem for us, but for some people it will be a problem.

Good points to consider:

Very good sunset views from the ocean view rooms.
Outside of our experience with the check in person, the rest of the staff was VERY responsive and attentive to our needs.
