We came down to Key West to get married. We had never been before so really relied on TripAdvisor when searching for a hotel. We could not be more pleased. Upon arrival we were met by Marta at the front desk who was extremely friendly. Our room was not ready since it was 8:30am, but she checked our bags into storage and told us to wait by the pool. Se said she would alert housekeeping to clean our room ASAP and that she would call us when it was ready. We went to the pool and enjoyed a great day relaxing. The pool area is beautiful and the staff is so friendly. Around 1pm our room was ready and boy were we happy. We were upgraded to a gorgeous one bedroom oceanfront room overlooking sunset pier (room 511) and could not be happier with the room. It was huge and very clean. The views are wonderful, bathroom was huge. The hotel gave us a complementary bottle of champagne and a note welcoming us to the hotel while on our wedding/honeymoon. I will break down my stay into a few different areas.
Staff: They were all wonderful. Charlie the bellhop was very friendly and helpful. Hassan, the waiter at Hot Tin Roof (hotel restaurant) was wonderful. Jess, at the pool made great drinks and was very friendly. And Nate and Mickey the outdoor concierge were also helpful and great to chat with. Every staff member we walked by during our 7 days there said hello to us and asked how we were doing. Never once did I see anyone on their phone or sitting down. When they aren't working they are cleaning. Every employee seems to love their job and it shows.
Cleanliness: Everything is squeaky clean. House keeping cleaned our room morning and then again at turn down service. The grounds are cleaned throughout the day, and the pool staff made sure to replace towels each time a guest left. The housekeepers were very trustworthy. We left valuables in the room each day and nothing every moved or went missing.
Dining: wonderful breakfast from Hot Tin Roof & speedy room service. Never ate dinner at Hot Tin Roof but we ate breakfast there most mornings. The Sunset Pier had great lunch and dinner options which we enjoyed poolside each day.
Location: The location could have not been more perfect. At 0 Duval you are close enough to the action, but far enough away to relax and unwind.
Drawbacks: Wifi does NOT work thorough out the hotel. Reception told us it only works at the pool area but that's not even fully true. It only works while sitting at the outside bar or next the surrounding tables. Cruise ships dock directly in front of the pool most days which blocks the beautiful ocean view as while as the sun around 3pm.
A lot of reviews complain about the roosters. We did hear them when at the pool but not ever in our room so they did not bother us at all I would imagine "island" facing rooms would hear them.
Overall we loved the hotel and will come back sooner rather than later. I could not stay anywhere else after our experience at Ocean Key Resort. Well worth the money we spent. The staff really knows how to treat their guests and the view can't be beat.
