“Has FLEAS!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2008

Normally, Starwood hotels are known for their quality. Upon arrival, we were really happy with our room. It LOOKED clean, there was a microwave and fridge, and free wifi. However, after the 1st night, we were bitten by SO MANY FLEAS that my fiancee counted a total of 60 bites from head to toe on himself and 45 on myself. It was the worst experience ever. He complained to the front desk after the first night
and no action was taken. The second night in the same room was EVEN WORSE. The fleas had a party on our bodies because in the morning, he had 30 more bites and I had 12 more bites. I complained again and we were moved to a "starwood preferred guest room" (which when we inspected the room was no different, except this time it was CLEAN and
we received 2 free bottles of water daily). The management there is TERRIBLE. We were on our way to an excursion that was booked with the help of the hotel concierge and told that if we did not return by 5 p.m. to move our luggage we would have to stay in that room AGAIN. Why couldn't they move our luggage? When I complained at the front desk after the 2nd night about the fleas, there were no apologizes, but rather the front desk person said "eww". Where were the "i'm sorry
the room wasn't clean"?! I am furious with Sheraton Suites Key West as
they did not provide a hygenic room, imposed strict timelines and conditions for us to move rooms at no fault of ours, and did not compensate us in any way for this terrible terrible room and treatment. I will never stay at this place again and will be writing a
letter to corporate and depending on their response, may possibly
never stay at a starwood property again.

The benefits of the hotel is:
1.) free wifi
2.) provides a shuttle to downtown where all the attractions and restaurants are. However, i noticed that marriott down the street also
provides the same service. So perhaps you should consider them. They are probably cheaper, and if the room has fleas, maybe they'll do something about it.
3.) pretty nice pool.

The disadvantages? Just read above. It was terrible; I'm not kidding.
No one should pay approximately $350 a night in a flea infested room and not be compensated.

We were only here for one night but we definetly would return. The rooms for very spacious and it was convient to have a frig and microwave in the room. I'm not sure if all rooms were set up the same as ours with a queen bed and sofa with attached chaise, but it was roomy enough to sleep 5 of us comfortablly. The staff was very nice and eager to please, when we called for extra blankets they were quick in accomodating us. The shuttle to downtown was a real plus so we didn't have to worry about parking downtown or drinking and driving. The beach across the street was beautiful as well as the pool. We would highly recommend to anyone.

The suite is roomy and modern. My 7 year old feels "royal" when she walked in. We had 2 queens and a pull out sofa bed. For a family of 5, it's certainly better than a "standard" room and the price is good. We enjoyed the pool almost every night. It is definitely heated and you can just walk right in without screaming. However, the location is off from the "action". Even though Smather's beach is across from the Sheraton, it's not a swimmable beach. I was told that it's made with land fill and imported sand from Florida. The water is not clean. To go to whether the action is, you need to take a shuttle. The hotel offers shuttle only once every hour, and also no longer offer shuttle service to and from the airport. So, if it's not for the transportation problem, we like the resort.

We stayed at the Sheraton Suites in Key West from December 5-8, 2007. The hotel grounds and suite were very clean and nice. Our suite was large and the turn-down service, LCD TV, and two-person marble shower was a great addition. The room could have used some maintenance on both the shutters and bathroom hooks, however.

Hotel staff was friendly and efficient and the hotel has all the amenities you need - pool and hot tub with lounge chairs and towel service, bar with live entertainment on weekends, full-service restaurant (beware: breakfast can be more expensive than dinner there) and gift shop. The concierge was helpful, although a bit too bubbly and pushy with the packages for our taste.

The hotel is located across the street from a nice beach (Smathers), but is several miles from any other attractions. The Sheraton does provide a free shuttle service to Mallory Square, but is only runs once an hour and was too full to get on several times during our stay. We'd recommend the hotel run this service each half hour instead of each hour. An airport shuttle service would also be helpful, as it was $15 (including tip) each way for a very short taxi ride. Another disappointment in the shuttle service is that it only runs from 10-10 so any early morning tours or nightlife require a cab.

With all of that said, we would recommend a stay at the Sheraton Suites, especially if you are there to relax and don't care to be close to the nightlife.

  • Liked — Great pool, near beach, very clean
  • Disliked — Far from attractions and shuttle service does not make up for it

Sheraton key west, is a very quite property, and maybe because in key west does not appear to be belonging sheraton hotel's chain.

the property imself is well appointed, room/suites are very comfortable and full equipped of all you needs, bed are excellent like all other from the chain, also the staff of the the reception are high standard and well trained, however if i will return to key west maybe I will stay somewherelse, the hotel i located faaraway from the main key west attractions, they supply a transfer bus to/from city centre but if you missed the bus for 1 minute you need to wait an hour before the next one, also the last transfer available in the night is at 10.30 pm, this is the time that lives starts in key west, restaurant is average with very limited choices of dishes, also the pool is very small and located inside of a courtyard and very soon you will be covered of palm's shadows and you need to mouve continously if you want to stay under the sun.

Services and facilities are not as well as many other sheratons worldwide, look to be more like 3 stars hotel moderate than what ususally sheraton are like 4 or 5 stars, if you're not interested of night life is good choice, otherwise for the same room rate you can have it good quality of room near the centre, without to be obliged to catch a taxi every time you need to go to sleep.

  • Liked — room quality and cleanless
  • Disliked — the location against city centre

I have stayed at this hotel twice! It has been amazing each time! The service is so nice and its so clean! The rooms are amazing and huge! The little gift shop is so cute and has great things to take home to the family. It has a great location right next to the beach and i loved having the bus that takes you into town! I would def. stay there again. Also, it has a gorgeous pool! Love it!

In my opinion, the Sheraton is the best place to stay in Key West, especially if you have a kid. First of all, it's directly across from a fantastic beach (Smather's beach). Secondly, there's a terrific pool and hot tub. Plus, all the rooms are suites (but reasonably priced) so you can easily dine in your room. And watch a movie in the living area after you put your child to sleep in the sleeping area. Finally, you can sign up for all sorts of activities--like renting a bike, cheaply and easily in the hotel lobby (bike rental cost $10 for four hours and was right outside the front door). We liked being away from the party scene on Duval street, but it was only about a five minute drive from the hotel. ( And the hotel offers a free shuttle). The rooms were spacious and clean, and the staff was friendly. Thank, Sheraton!
