We first wanted to have a drink at Sloppy Joe's but it was crowded and they were charging a $3 cover charge. We noticed a guy holding a Captain Tony's cup and decided to go check it out. We are so glad we did! It is old and dark and funky. However- we had the best time here- we loved the band and got drunk off the Pirate Punch! Captain Tony's is a must see and is after all- the original site of Sloppy Joe's.
I'm still not sure I saw what I saw, wow...The lady(skeleton) behind the bar still has me amazed. When I go back it will be the first place I go back to...I loved it.
If you go to some bars in Key West make sure this one is first on your list! We actually went on the Trails of Margaritaville tour that day and this is the bar where we met and started. I loved the Pirates Punch that was served at Cpt Tony's -but watch out it packs a punch quick! (but of course we d mind that) We loved the authentic feel of this Old Town Key West Bar, down to the thousands of business cards customers have put on the ceiling through the years. And we got lucky and got to meet Captain Tony and share a few drinks with him. We even bought a T-shirt and of course had to have him sign it. We made that bar one of our frequent stops every night when we began the bar hopping. Don't miss this wonderful piece of Key West history or the cheap drink specials!
Its Key West..it aint Bermuda. And Cpt'n Tonys is a true bite full of Key West flavor. Dark, dank, humid salted air with a stale beer smell. Absolutely perfect! Leave your "airs" at the door cause we're all just regular pirate folk here. They have cheap beer, rum punches, and live music. Its just one of those places where you grab a bar stool for the apre-dive required beer, and before you know it...its midnight. You've made new friends, listened to your old favorite Jimmy Buffet tunes, and lost valuable brain cells. And you'd do it all again the next day. Dont expect anything fancy..its just a old bar. But if you go expecting to find just an old bar...and grab a stool...you'll discover the true flavor of Key West.
And hell...we can all afford to lose a few brain cells every now and again.

Captain Tony's is a Gem. There is no question the man is a living legend and a saint. Sure the rest of the Key's is great but you would be remiss not to pay your respects and bless this place with your best. "Eyes that care." "He will listen to you." reads on the wall from his past campaign. Kudo's Capt'n T, I hope to meet you on my next trip to KW and share a drink and some good times.
