In any other town, I would consider a place like Capt. Tony's Saloon a dingy heap to be avoided. But for some reason, in Key West, it just WORKS. Capt. Tony's is like no other place I've been in, for good or bad. The entire bar from floor to ceiling is covered in old lingerie, junkyard finds and business cards in various states of decay, many (like my own from 10 years prior) which have completely disintegrated to dust from the heat, humidity, smoke and whatever else pervades that bar. But this is a place with CHARACTER, which is so hard to find in touristy areas. To experience the atmosphere of Captain Tony's is to go back in time to a simpler place where the majority of people who walked the streets of Key West weren't cruise ship folk. Having been, among other things, the former ice house and morgue for the city, there are certainly plenty of ghosts in this place, but it suits it fine and adds to the atmosphere.
