Owner description: A very unusual cemetery - several graves have humorous epitaphs (e.g., "I told you I was sick").

“Interesting and unique”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

It's an interesting cemetery with above-ground tombs and statues. It's also home to many shy lizards and chickens with young ones. There's lots of history here. One area commemorates the sailors who died on the USS Maine which sunk in Havana. Many famous early Floridians are buried here. It's unique that it has a Catholic and Jewish sections. It's a quiet place for a walk and it's free.

“Not dying to get in”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

interesting place but poorly maintained and sadly much of it is in disrepair. Simply picking up the trash would be an improvement. Should be more respect for the place in general before it can be touted as a tourist sight.

we went in key west in october, and we decided to visit the famous cimitery.

“Key West Cemetery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

We visited the cemetery the first day we arrived here. it is free to the public. Summer hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Be sure to check out the Key West Cemetery site before coming to find out where Sloppy Joe's grave is located and the memorial for the USS Maine. The graves are interesting, and the inscriptions on the graves are touching. Some have pictures. Most are above ground. Yes some parts of the cemetery are in disrepair but that is due to the age of the cemetery and the funds available for future preservation. They need support to help preserve this historical place, so check out how to volunteer or support the cemetery.

“Neat site”

Rode bikes around and inside the cometary. A really neat stop and very interesting. Plus we loved the roosters crowing around the willow trees!
