“There are better beaches on Key West”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

There is snorkeling off of the beach. (You can rent equipment). Visibility was poor the day we went so we didn't snorkel. While the view was pretty the beach is covered with rocks. You need beach shoes to get to the water and rent a lounge chair if you want to lay out and get some sun. Definitely not a good choice if you have small children who want to play in the sand.

“Beautiful beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

The beach was a little bit rocky but the scenery was beautiful and the water was a gorgeous emerald green color. Well appointed with beach chairs and umbrellas you can rent at a reasonable price, clean bathrooms and a good concession stand. We liked it so much we went there every day, best time is between 10 and 12 when the sun is not too hot.

“Ft. Zachary Taylor: A gem off the beaten path”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

What a joy it was to stumble upon this little rocky beach; a world away from awkward Duval St. We rented a couple of bikes and made our way to the entrance of the fort and followed the path to the beach. Along the way we saw MANY multi-colored, lively mature Iguanas and babies running around. The fort itself is a rather sinister dark hulk of a thing rising ominously out of the water, but definitely worth seeing and thinking about. Once we got to the little palm tree populated cove& picnic ground, it was a welcome relief from town. Not fancy - felt like a locals secret get-a-way. Unfortunately we didn't go in the water because we couldn't take a purse/ wallet with us in the water, but we could tell there were fish out there as snorkelers were spending plenty of time around the outlying rocks.

There is a little hut where you can rent what you need like, booties ( essential for the rocky coast ) snorkels, fins, masks, lounges, umbrellas to make for a great day. Suggestion: Just take some cash with you ( about $40 each for snorkel set + extra for lounges etc) and leave your purse, wallet, credit cards etc in the hotel. And bring a water-proof wallet for what you don't spend, rent some bikes, peddle over, take your time on the way around the fort visiting the iguanas, then just chill out on the beach, go snorkeling & have lunch. This should probably be #1 in Key West if you want to just relax. We stayed at the Hyatt and their beach was just silly. A 5x5 rock garden. Nothing compared to this sweet natural get-a-way. HIghly recommended.

great beach, nice waters to swim in, a bit rocky for kids. A lovely cafe up from the beach for ice cream and beverages.

“Interesting fort, great beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

This is an awesome beach. Load up and pay per vehicle. It's worth it. You can rent snorkel equipment. The water is great; it's clear and shallow. The beach is rocky and full of pebbles and shells, but still very comfortable. We loved it. There are free tours of the fort at noon. There's a great view from the fort.
