“Amazing snorkelling - if you're patient!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

Within 6 feet of the beach (around the boulders) the marine life is stunning. Swim over (gently) and wait a few moments. The shy fishes will emerge to surround you in an abundance of colour and diversity. This truly is a wonderful place and the fact that this tropical fishtank is right on the beach means it is accessible to even the most cautious snorkeller. We saw everything from Blenney to Barracuda and all the diversity inbetween. Tip: be patient, be quiet and go early in the day, because when all the noisy families arrive, they scare the fish back into their hiding places. Nevertheless, we had two of the most memorable hours of our lives interacting with the marine life at Fort Zachary Taylor.

“save your money and snorkel here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

the beach is pretty rocky so bring shoes or something for your feet. about 50-80 feet from the shore there are 2-3 rock piles there are so many fish around these piles. I highly suggest snorkeling here. food on site, showers.

“Best Beach on the Island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

Stop by and stay a while...If you want some beach time away from the main tourist zone then Fort Zachary Taylor is your spot. Stop by the eco Center while you're in the area as well. Worth the time.

“Great place to view the sunset...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

A nice beach for snorkling among the rocky coral beach. While we did not go into the water, I noticed that most beachgoers/swimmers were wearing beach shoes into the water because of the coral beach. A nice picnic area had tables and was in the shady area with many big trees. A concession stand was nearby to purchase food and drink and also there was bathrooms nearby. A good place for a family to spend the day.

“Interesting self guided tour and often good snorkeling.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

We typically walk to Fort Zach for the snorkeling in the morning before the crowds show up. The key to snorkeling there is to watch the tide as the current can be fairly strong. But swim out past the rocks and we have seen lots of barracuda, tarpon, sting rays, grouper and the typical tropicals. The self guided tour of the fort is somewhat interesting and there were some big iguanas too.
