This is a lovely hotel resort out of the hustle and bustle of the tourist area, with only 148 rooms.
While there were some people with young children staying, this is more of a hotel for couples without children. We had a one bedroom suite, with 2 balconies, front and back so you could sit outside and enjoy the weather choosing to be in sun or shade at any time of the day. Rooms are nicely furnished with large TV's and dvd's in both. Furniture is good quality and Florida style but not over the top. You also have a microwave toaster and small fridge in the sitting area, which is good for snacks or if you do not wish to take breakfast by the pool. There is also wifi throughout the whole resort - an absolute must these days.
The resort does not have a restaurant for evening meals, but does provide breakfast and lunch by the pool. The bar serves drinks until around 7.30pm and is lovely to sit there in either the sun or shade.
There are 4 small pools, which are for dunking, not swimming, and only to a depth of 4ft 9in. But this was more than enough. The pools are interconnected by pathways, which have all been planted in tropical style. There are more than enough loungers by the pool along with umbrellas so you can get out of the heat of the sun.
You will need a car, or be prepared to take a taxi down to the tourist area. As the roads are being redeveloped, it is a bit of a pain around the one way system, but as you can't really get lost here, you quickly find your around like a local!
Across the road from the resort is a small mall, complete with supermarket, and the usual Chinese TGI Fridays and other similar eating establishments.
The resort is a fully concierge service, so if we wanted a restaurant booked or taxi called they would do it for us. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
There were 2 downsides to our stay, the first , was servicing of the rooms, seemed to take some time, and ours had not been done by the time we returned in the afternoon. The hotel promises rooms will be serviced by 5 pm - they were true to their word- but this meant if you wanted a rest in your room for us at least it was not going to happen. It was not a huge problem as the pool area is lovely and we were able to find a nice spot out of the sun to snooze.
The other major downside, but dealt with immediately by hotel staff, was a local fraternity group who had booked 30 rooms at the same time as our stay. Clearly these students either have far too much money, or think they are more entitled than the other guests. The yelling and screaming and taking over one of the pools on their first afternoon, along with bringing in their own alcohol in glass bottles into the pool area, a huge you do not ever do, either showed their naivety and assumption that they could do whatever they wished.
The hotel staff were very quick to react to this and resulted in a number of the guests being evicted. Those who were allowed to remain were under notice as was made clear exactly what would happen. After this incident, the group quietened down and we're more respectful of the other guests.
We would certainly return to Parrott Key Resort for another visit.
