“Fabulous resort!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

We arrived at the Parrot Key later at night after a long day of travel. Check in was easy, although they had us in a one bdrm when we had booked a 2 bdrm, but no big deal, they easily changed it!!! We were in Unit 12 an had a 2 floor unit, the middle and top floor, which was great. The suite was beautiful!!! We had a lovely livingroom with a small fridge, microwave, a nice separate bedroom with a king bed and big bathroom with tub and separate shower. We had two decks, one off the back and one at the front towards the canal which had two lovely wooden chairs that we thoroughly enjoyed in the evenings!!! We had another bedroom on the top floor with a huge walk in closet and another bathroom. The suite was lovely, we loved this resort! We had great breakfasts at the poolside restaurant, there are four gorgeous pools which are nice and warm. We would HAPPILY stay here again and hopefully will again one day! Key West is such a funky little town, we really enjoyed walking around and shopping and enjoying the sites!!! I highly recommend this resort!

Room Tip: The suites with top floors are great!

Roosevelt Blvd was under construction and only one-way in front of the resort property, which made getting to and from Duval St (about 2 miles away) a bit of a challenge. There is no shuttle provided by the resort, so we elected to go by taxi, which got a bit expensive at $12 - $15 each way. The resort property is very nicely landscaped and the swimming pools are lovely. Food at the tiki bar is pricey but of good quality. The room was very clean and nicely decorated, although there was not much table-top space (a desk or dresser would have been welcome). We enjoyed the canal view and the resident iguana patrolling the sandy area just outside our french doors. The room was quiet but it seemed a long way from the central parking lot to the other side of the resort especially with heavy suitcases in the Key West heat and humidity. The resort is right next to a commercial area with a Walgreens and Home Depot, so parking sometimes became a competition between local shoppers and resort visitors. The staff was friendly but the reception area was very noisy and so it was difficult to hear the advice being offered. A mixed bag of good quality and nice decor combined with a difficult location and very heavy traffic between the resort and the Key West attractions.

Looking for a different type of vacation, I decided to spend some time in the Florida Keys. For this trip I chose Key West as it was a place I visited many years ago in my younger days. The island is somewhat of a Jeckyl and Hyde with dual personalities with a party central area known as Duval St on one end with the other end some what more reserved and less touristy.

For this trip I wanted something on the mellow side knowing that should the need for shopping and night life be necessary, they can be aquired via a cab or even a walk. Right now I think I found the perfect place that satifies both desires; its called Parrot Key Hotel and resort.

From the moment you step onto the premisis, its like descending upon a tropical garden. The rooms are situated in grouped buildings somewhat town house style that are encompassed by a lush variety of tropical plants. The wonderful manicured pathways highlight your journey to and from your room enhancing the Key West experience. At night the resort takes on a whole new face with various lighting of buildings and pathways enhancing the romance of the resort. There are also four distinct pools surrounded by the lush tropical plants each providing a different experience for the guests. You can think of Parrot Key resort as being its own little village within itself. In fact, you only come to reality when step off the property and imerse yourself with the locals.

With this being Key West, I would have to rank the hotels in "Jimmy Buffett units". Some of the hotels would rank a quarter "Buffett" and others a half "Buffett". For this hotel, if you want to relax, enjoy the romance and are looking for the full "Buffett", this is the resort for you.

You may ask, would I return? The answer would be most certainly. As Parrot Key stands well here on TripAdvisor, its not because of just one thing that makes this place special. Rather, its the entire package; the full "Buffett"!

Although the resort is away from the craziness of Duval Street, we actually felt that was a plus. It is an easy bike ride to the action, although the construction area is a bit bumpy. The lush gardens make it incredibly private and our room had it's own porch, complete with a sandy beach and gorgeous views of the water. The staff was so helpful in recommending restaurants, all of which were just as good as they had claimed. In fact, they booked excursions before we arrived as well as had bicycles delivered to the hotel for us to rent. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: Waterfront rooms have private beach, although there is no access to the ocean.

It's away from the real Key West action, worth the short drive into town. Currently the road to get their is under construction and you would never imaging that such a great hotel was hidden past it. The service was great, wish the pools were open later. The room suites are a must.

We got married in Key West last month and loved the Parrot Key! Stayed in the 2 floor suite with friends that came with and had no problems with service. Kind of far to walk to Old Town but if you rent a bike it's a quick trip. I Recommend staying here and getting the ocean view rooms, beautiful.

Room Tip: Get a room on the Gulf of Mexico side of the resort for amazing sunsets
