Maybe we called on a bad night because it was really empty which removed any atmosphere. Anyway, we chose to eat outside because it seemed nicer but got bitten by mosquitoes for our trouble.
The service was ok but not stellar.
The chips and salsa were absolutely excellent as were the margaritas. Stick to them and you'll have a good time!
The fajitas were ok but nothing special and certainly not the best I've ever had. It was all a bit plastic and not very tasty.
The tri-plex of Senor Frijoles, CJ's and Sundowners has a wonderful location on Florida Bay. The waitstaff is young and eager to please. They serve great margaritas. The complimentary chips and salsa are great. However, my praise stops there. Just 20 miles north of Key Largo in Homestead, REAL Mexican food is easily available in REAL Mexican kitchen restaurants. Sadly, Senor Frijoles is just a step above Old El Paso canned Mexican food and on a par with Taco Bell. Wednesday is all-you-can-eat taco night for $5.95. The best part of the dinner remains the complimentary chips and salsa! The taco meat is definitely seasoned with Old El Paso. If you pick ground beef burritos, the meat still tastes like it is seasoned with Old El Paso. If you want Old El Paso taste, save the $'s, stay home and make it yourself. With a nice waitstaff and a great location, it's a pity the food doesn't measure up.
