“Have never felt so pampered in all my life!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2012

I came to Ocean Reef last week with my sister and her family for a business trip. We arrived on Sunday and the bell person loaded all our stuff on a cart and walked us to our room in the Yauchtsmen. The front desk lady was very kind and informative. On Monday, we received 12 inches of rain. We had after hermit crab races for the kids that was so much fun. The alarms went off and we evacuated to a parking lot near a marina. A manger came and got my nephew and I and took us to a dry place and got us towels and linens to dry off and stay warm. The housekeeping staff was amazing! Everyone we incountered was awesome. We were a little surprised at the prices at The Islander restaurant. So, we got groceries at the market. I don't believe many people shop there that are concerned with prices because half to three quarters of the items in the store had no price, when we asked...they almost laughed at us. We enjoyed the pool and beautiful gardens on property. I liked that we were so isolated. I would recommended Ocean Reef to anyone, just get groceries before you go. There is a Walmart in Florida City that is easy to go to before you get to the highway to go down to the resort. Thanks for An amazing trip!

Ocean Reef Club is a private club with a hotel on the premises. My husband and I have stayed at many places in the Keys, but Ocean Reef is a different experience. There are several restaurants (and more for members), some better than others, but overall the food and service are good. The room was lovely - we learned from members that some buildings were renovated fairly recently. The property, not surprisingly for a private club, is beautifully maintained, including 2 golf courses and a large pool ans salt water lagoon area. My complaint would be that pool area - the staff at the pool bar is decidedly unfriendly, perhaps because gratuity is included in everything. There is one pool that is "adults only" after 3pm, but the rule is not enforced leading to a feeling that there is virtually no where by the water to escape from children. I understand family-friendly, but most adults like a little alone time as well. The spa is very small (no changing room/shower area for non-members) but the experience was nice. We had some issues with the front desk (training issues), but otherwise, the service was great.

The public areas are well appointed, food tasty, lots of sports activities, good sized beach and swimming areas for the many guests, kid friendly, and the room staff do a great job and are gracious to guests. All good things in a large resort property.
Then, WHAT'S THE PROLEM?? Maybe it was just an off night, but our made-in-advance dining reservation time was not only not honored, but it was completely ignored. This is not what one would expect when staying at an expensive luxury resort. When we were finally escorted to the table we were pretty unhappy, plus, hungry!! A good dinner, nicely served, helped to make things better. We retired to our lovely room and went to bed at about 1030pm. A very noisy group decided to party in the parking lot below our balcony until 4am - needless to say we did NOT get a good night's rest. A weary 230am call was made to the front desk to beg for quiet, but after a short lull the music continued to be played and people continued to be insensitive to guests in the rooms nearby. Our stay was memorable for the wrong reasons.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that won't be anywhere near late night outdoor parties

I stayed there with my boyfriend for a business retreat. It is the perfect place for a quiet get-away. the rooms were very charming and the personnel could not be more accommodating.
Next time we are heading to the Keys, we will definitely stay there again. Thank you!

This property is a mix of single family homes, condos, and hotel.
The hotel facilities are open to all who live/stay anywhere within the property; there is a beautiful beachfront area with a beach-bar, pools, sand volleyball, recreation rental area, that fronts gorgeous water views.
In addition to the hotel facilities, there are several pools, golf courses, recreation facilities docking facilities, etc. scattered throughout the property.

You can take advantage of their many offerings: they have a listing of activities offered each week. Fishing and yacht trips may be booked too.

This is a self-contained property, in other words, you never have to leave.
There is a grocery store, gas station, several boutiques, clothing stores, dry cleaner, tailor, restaurants and coffee/ice cream store.
They also offer an in-house dining menu and will deliver directly to your dwelling.
It truly has the feel of an upscale resort - far, far away from the rest of civilization.
It does not resemble the typical picture that comes to mind, when discussing the keys.

The main strip for Key Largo is a good 20 minute drive south.

ORC is absolutely fantastic. However it is essential to be a member or be visiting a member or belly up to a bar and get to know a few upon arrival. A good day would be to golf in the morning or go sailfishing/lunch at the raw bar...get the burger/hang at the pool...beautiful views...sunbathers included/diner at The Islander...the specials always include fish caught that day at the reef/Drinks at the Burgee...bands on the weekend/Hopefully the night ends with an invitation to go party on one of the mega yachts
