Let me start by saying the service was first class. Our waitress was Melissa(?) and we wanted for nothing all night. I don't need to know what's in the she-soup - it was delicious. The cracked conch appetizer was excellent as well. We had the stuffed jalapeno appetizer with crabmeat and loved that too. The main courses were absolutely delicious. We had the south western hogfish but the dish we loved best was grouper in a white sauce although I can't remember what they called the sauce. I'm looking forward to going back and trying the sandwiches with a healthy assortment of the appetizers that we enjoyed so much!

I found Calypso's to be an offensive restaurant. I walked in with a party of 6 and we were set to have a nice dinner, a few bottles of wine and a great time......But what turned my stomach was all the Anti-President Bush stickers. Now I'm all for freedom of speech and expression but it was in very poor taste. Unfortunately you can't turn politics off like a switch even on vacation. But if you appreciate their views...by all means enjoy. I found that even for a Republican from DC it was a little much.

I only give this restaurant 4 stars because they don't take debit or credit cards. My husband and I didn't realize this until we sat down, and we had $32 cash on us, combined. The specials sounded so very delicous, but we settled on a grouper sandwich and yellowfin tuna sandwich. Both were delectable, and we came out of there just under $30 including tip. It's a very casual place...somewhere that we agreed we'd probably visit faithfully if we lived in Key Largo. If we ever visit that area in the future, we'll be sure to come to Calypso's again--bringing plenty of cash this time!

Being #1 here, we had to try this place, and can now say that yes, the food is excellent. From the conch ceviche to my dolphin enchiladas to my husband's dolphin in pepper cream sauce, everything was delicious. The only slight food grumble was the coleslaw, which was only so-so because it was room temperature and mildly wilted.

Service-wise, this place is VERY casual. It's a place where the waitresses will tell you to sit anywhere. You'll get honest answers from them about the food, and if you need something and they aren't around, you might have to shout to someone at the bar-- or they might shout to you from the bar (not in a bad way, though).

Decor-wise, this is a plastic chair & eclectic mix of knick-knacks kind of place. The marina adds to the mix of a million things to look at. Jimmy Buffett would probably love it here.
