I grew up in Miami, but only recently (finally!) ate at Alabama Jack's with 4 family members. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The conch fritters were the best I've had. The fries were hot, crispy, and well-seasoned. Their homemade cole slaw was delicious, too. Took awhile for the food to come, but we were seated quickly, our order was taken promptly, and the frosty-cold beer kept coming while we waited and enjoyed people- watching. Thankfully, we didn't see Kathie Lee and Frank Gifford, who supposedly have a home nearby and frequent the place, according to an old newspaper article appropriately posted near the toilets. AJ's has the old familiar feel, look, and, yes, smell of all the other beach bar/crab shack places you've been to (Cedar Key, Steinhatchee, St. Augustine, Myrtle Beach...), but, when you can dine al fresco on those tasty conch fritters 3 days after Christmas in a t-shirt and flip-flops, the combined experience left me feeling nostalgic, realizing how much I miss South Florida. I somehow feel that I'll be homesick for this place from now on. I'll definitely be back next time, maybe every time, I'm down.
