“great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

We stayed for 4 days Jan 4-8, 2013 in the Aquamarina room upstairs. What a fantastic view especially when we moved the kitchen table near the window to enjoy the view while having breakfast and dinner. The one bedroom suite had a TINY bathroom which was our only annoyance. The sink was a mini 5 inch type and the plumbing backed up if the tap ran and is why we only rate this a 3*. The refrigerator is under the counter without a freezer. However, there is a big ice machine outside. The TV was awkwardly placed very high and did not work properly. There was an old couch in the extension of the living room. All that being said, however, we enjoyed our stay, eating outside at the picnic table for lunch, reading in the outdoor TIKI huts with comfortable chairs; enjoying the fantastic views and sunsets. The location is great for touring the Everglades national park. Don't miss it for seeing all types of birds and aligators! Dominic offered us a room upgrade to the aquamarina and charged accordingly. He was not full on any day we were there. The grounds are impeccably kept by the grounds keeper--he was very friendly and helpful. We also made a day trip to Key West. It is a lovely town and the 'train' tour was great.
All in all, I recommend this place for an intimate stay in a very clean place with comfortable beds.

Room Tip: Aquamarine room upstairs has a fantastic view and would be perfect except for tiny bathroom and plum...

It is easy to overlook this small hotel just 90 minutes from Miami on the Keys. It is just off US1, hidden by high green foliage. It is smart and intimate, nothing luxurious, but when you get to sit on the pier or go for a swim after walking down the lawn to the Bayside water - wow!
My wife and I were on our way to Key West after spending two nights in the Anglers Boutique Hotel on South Beach. We wished we had spent the nights here instead. The owner and his staff are really pleasant and make the effort to ensure that we are satified customers. The beds are very comfortable. The rooms are quiet - traffic sounds are minimal and the rooms clean and roomy. The view over the water is calming. Herons and other birds, a plenty, fish swimming by the millions and the water's surface calm and gentle...
A strong positive recommendation - miles better than anything in Miami and a good way to start the Keys.

After coming off a very fun but exhausting cruise, we headed to Key West but stopped at the Visitor Center in Key Largo. There (after the lady helping us told me 8 times in 5 minutes how tired I looked) we booked her recommendation to the Azul del Mar. What a great decision on our part. Azul is tucked back into the woods, (we had a hard time finding it) with 6 european style adult only rooms. There is a lovely, tranquil little beach and dock with lounge chairs and one of the best sunsets I've seen outside of the Caribbean. Hammocks dot the grounds and small open huts with wicker furniture. We were only there for the night, but would go back again to stay longer and enjoy more of the amenities. The only reason I did not give Azul 5 stars was there was little to no privacy or light in the bathroom. Sorry folks, but I like a real door on my bathroom! Other than that, worth checking out!

Azul was a great stay. Our room was very comfortable and had a great view (Aquamarina suite). The hotel was quiet, secluded and located well. The staff was very helpful in suggesting activities and restaurants. We opted to book a snorkeling trip through Azul and our captain, Casey, was great! I would be glad to stay here again.

I travel all over and have stayed in many places.
Never have I felt so "AT HOME"
Non commmercial secluded yet not far from anything.
This is a MUST STOP for any couples that travel to the Keys.
Clean rooms and wel groomed grounds.
Petite private beach with a Large Dock and deck for those Sun Worshipers.
Rooms for all kinds, I could just live here year around.

One of the nicest boutique hotels I've ever stayed. The view from the dock was breathtaking and very tranquil. The owner was very helpful with everything. If everybody did business like this there would be no small business failures! Bravo! Well done.

My boyfriend (FIANCEE now!) and I travelled to the keys for a couple of nights and stayed at Azul del Mar in Key Largo (where we got engaged!). This is the perfect time to travel - we always travel to Florida in September - the weather is perfect and the tourists are all gone! This hotel is a gorgeous, secluded spot, perfect for romance and couples get-aways. We stayed in the Aquamarine room, and would highly recommend this room. It is on the second floor and the views are stunning with a room that is quite large and the decor is fresh and contemporary (we posted photos). It has a separate bedroom from the main living room and it also has an amazing and tranquil sun room that looks out onto the grounds and bayside waters. No complaints at all on the room. The television is awkwardly positioned from the ceiling, but who wants to watch tv when you are in paradise like this. The bed was incredibly comfortable and when we asked for additional pillows, it was no problem at all! The room and grounds are incredibly clean. The resort owner, Dominic, was a great host and he made sure to give us a map of the keys and give us pointers for romantic dinners and great breakfast spots. The grounds has a large hammock to lay with your sweetheart and there are a couple of tiki hut options with comfortable lounge chairs that overlook the bayside. There is a private dock that was completely to us the entire time - it was incredible watching the sunset. We were up early and went for a private boat ride (with Chris we think his name was?), arranged through the hotel, who took us an hour out into the Florida Bay (for an incredible price, I think it was around $80 per person) and then dropped us off to kayak around the mangroves by ourselves. It was so private and romantic; we had the entire Florida Bay to ourselves. This is a quiet Inn style resort, with none of the ammenities of a resort (no pool, no gym), but all of the charm and privacy of an Inn. I believe there are only six rooms in total. When we got engaged on our first night there, we tried to find a phone to call our parents to share the good news, but there is no phone in the room (again when you are in paradise, there is no need for phones anyhow). Dominic was kind enough to allow us to use his phone to share the news with our parents (in Canada) which was greatly appreciated. There is wifi for those who need to 'stay connected'.
We will definitely return to Azul Del Mar - there is also one run by Dominic in Key West, which we will try to make our way down there on future visits.

Room Tip: Choose the Aquamarine room - it was great (but we haven't seen the others). Based on our experi...
