Wow. Based on the reviews for this place, I booked a room for a quick weekend get away for me and my husband. Wow. The reviews were spot on. Great location, and an oasis in a sea of large resorts.

First, we booked one of the smaller rooms, and as they were not fully booked, they upgraded us to a larger suite upstairs. Really nice room, small kitchen area with REAL plates, wine glasses, and cups. The linens all smelled so nice!

The management provided a nice listing of local restaurants, including a little map with mile markers. And, recommendations as well.

Kayaks are on premise, and as the hotel is bayside, the water is always nice. A little windy, but the sun still shines on that side of the keys.

Only downside was the size of our bathroom, we had an upstairs room and it was very small, but the overall size of the room made up for it! Bed very comfortable, nice linens. Once you check in, unless you need them, they are invisible. Which is great when all you want to do is unwind. Sit on their dock and drink a glass of wine as you watch the sun set. Wonderul.

What a terrific find. We just spent a lovely 5 day holiday at Azul del Mar. Our room was cozy & comfy. The bed as comfortable as at home. Sort of like a bed & breakfast in that they provide the best pastries in the morning & there's a coffee maker in the room for some fresh brew. Staff very helpful, courteous & friendly. They gave us some excellent reccommendations for dinner. The rooms were clean, spectacular views of the Bay. The beach is tiny, but so is the Hotel, raked every morning & very tidy. All in all a rare find & excellant value.

“Truly Fabulous”

This place is amazing! Six rooms in one small building by the sea. Such an amazing sunset view, and the most wonderful service....

We booked relatively late, and could only get the deluxe ocean suite. It was so beautiful - the view from the living room was perfect, and the bedroom was really relaxing. Our room was very large - and we certainly did not need the space we got. It was expensive - but absolutely worth it!

There is a wonderful garden right on the bay, with pairs of comfy chairs and sunbeds. Its all very relaxing - you can jump off the deck into the sea (with water as calm as a swimming pool), you can take a kayak out, or you can just sit there and sunbathe, watch the sunset or
watch the stars. We just sat there - and it was lots of fun.

The service is so good - they are friendly without being at all imposing. And the attention to detail is amazing - the bed had little ornamental sea shells on it, and the cosmetics were all Aveda!

There is no breakfast - but there is a supermarket about four miles away, and there is a good restaurant/bar called Sundowners about half a mile away.

We would definitely recommend this place - and hope to go back soon!

“Best of Key Largo”

Azul del Mar

Jan 1, 2008

We stayed at Azul del Mar for 4 nights in the Studio Garden room. The setting of the B&B is great - far enough off the main road to lose most of the road noise, and with the lovely garden and water edge location just fabulous to watch the sun go down. The facilities in the place are good - being English we would have liked a toaster but a kettle was offered and accepted. We would have used the kayaks had the wind been a little less and we loved the garden furniture and tiki huts. The room itself was nicely done - good linens and a beautiful bathroom - privacy is not a big issue for us, being a married couple and spending our 10th wedding anniversary night here. The staff were exceptionally friendly and recommended a wonderful restaurant for our anniversary meal. The only fault we could find was that we could hear the air conditioner from the next door room going all night, as we didn't use our own. The cute stray cat and barbecue were a great bonus.

“spend more to get seaside rooms; studio garden room lacks privacy”

What we liked:
- Very nice service and bathroom amenities
- Private pier where we could watch dolphins, a manatee, crabs, starfish, and lots of fish
- Free use of kayaks to explore the bay
- Kitchenette with dishes and silverware
- Free DVDs to borrow; satellite TV
- Several outdoor sitting areas, both in the sun and in the shade

What we didn't like:
- The room we had - garden studio - had folding, slatted doors to separate the main room from the bathroom. This gives the person in the bathroom absolutely no privacy! I wouldn't stay in this room again for this reason, though I'd return to the property to try another room.
- Walls were so thin we could hear the neighbor snoring. (Turning on the air conditioner drowned out the sound, and you'll probably want the a/c on most of the time anyway.)
- TV is on a hospital-like stand near the ceiling, which doesn't allow comfortable viewing given the furniture setup.
- Shower head was too high and made the shower unsatisfactorily like a fine mist.

From the other reviews, it sounds like the seaside rooms don't have the problems I mentioned.
