“Great location, cute accomodations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2011

We had a cute little apartment with full kitchen that looked out over the channel. We took a kayak ride into the mangroves and really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere.

My wife & I we're looking for a place to relax and get "off the grid." The Tarpon Flats Inn fit perfectly. The private beach was a quite place to enjoy the sun and read. The views were wonderful. During the mornings of our stay, we enjoyed taking out the complimentary kayaks for a peacful paddle through the marina and then we'd venture out into the bay to search for manatee. All dining was within a few minutes dirve away. We'll be back!

This was our second stay at Tarpon Flats. It is a quite, peaceful place to relax. It is located on a nice sound and has a great view of the water. The first year we were there we saw a manatee in the sound. There is a pool for cooling off and a nice hammock right near the water for a nap. The rooms are spacious with a kitchen and are very clean. The manager provides a basket with snacks and breakfast items. My husband went fishing and the boat picked up right at Tarpon Flats. A great place to stay!

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same, so every room is grea!

I just read the last review and was shocked at their experience. Ours was totally opposite. This is a marina inn ~ small, quaint, laid-back and beautiful. We also had the marina package ~ a gorgeous and extra clean suite filled with wine, fruit, cheese, and chocolates. We also did the sunset cruise and had a gorgeous time.

True ~ breakfast isn't deliveried to your room each morning ~ Instead the refrigerator is stocked ~ but we weren't disappointed in the least. and it is true that they have just changed management and are going through a transitional period but I will also say that they went out of their way to make sure our stay was as nice as possible. And also ~ as far as the price, it was a sweetheart of a deal.

I am not sure if the last reviewer is familiar with how laid-back the keys are or for that matter how expensive lodging is. Certainly, this inn is a step above most in that area ~ and I am very picky!!!

We hope to be able to visit this inn annually ~ it is one of the best hidden secrets in the keys.

Room Tip: Always confirm all reservations a few days ahead.

Where do I start. I will start by saying that I have NEVER complained about any place i have EVER stayed before ( I have stayed many places and this is my first complaint)..I researched and found "Tarpon Flats Inn" on the internet. Sounded great: "breakfast searved at your door every morning". Not true! We arrived after driving 4 hrs and no one was in the office. We waited 20 minutes before a very nice, local man came to the office and called the manager for us. She showed up shortly after he called her and nothing was prepared. She forgot we were coming this day. Who knows how long we would have waited if the man did not show up. We got the "sweet heart package" (the special advertised). This package included cheese and crackers, a bottle of wine and a 1.5 hr sunset cruise that was canceled. Wine Cheese and crackers were supposed to be in our room as advertised (we stood around and waited for her to get our basket together) . She could not even find our key, then she gave us the wrong key. We got the key, and the place looked nice excetp that there was urine on the toilet seat and pubic hair on the bathroom floor ( NOT COOL!!!) No remote control in the room (NOT COOL!) Her answer to that was "most people just get up and push the buttons". She made a comment that I must be young (im in my 30's but that is irrelevent). (Its 2011, no one wants to get up out of bed to change a channel or adjust volume on vacation at a bed and "breakfast"). Not appologetic at all about anything. She just continued stating that she has too much going on. They do not serve breakfast at your door any more (not cool when expecting it) We did get a bagles with our cheese and wine basket YIPEE. Just remember everything you heard good about the place on the internet is not current. They had to fire the last manager because she let the place fall apart and now things are a mess. Maybe things will get better. I would wait and go somewhere else if you are planning a trip to key largo. It was over priced for what you got although they did refund 60.00 to my credit card for the sunset cruise. The manager did say to go to the marina early where the boat was for the cruise because there was alot to do there. Nothing to do there but to go to the holiday inn and have some drinks at the out door bar. Spent 3 hrs at that area to find out the cruise was canceled. We could have planned something else for that evening. Key Largo is awesome but tarpon flats is very bad. There is more but i am tired of being on the computer. Long story short, the manager is not understanding at all and did not appologize for 1 single thing, only made excuces and was very very defensive. Thank goodness this was not any special occasion for us. We still made the best out of our trip. Lots of great restraunts!! (Snappers is awesome). Fishing was great also.

We stayed 3 nights at Tarpon flats in January as a weekend getaway out of the miserable cold of Indiana. We really couldn't have asked for anything more.

We arrived a little after five. Susie was not there and the office was closed so we called the number on the window and she was horribly apologetic. She told us which room number we were in, told us it was unlocked and to head up as she drove in. We had just unloaded our things and sat down on the beach chairs as she walked up with our wine/fruit and cheese tray. What a way to watch the sunset.

It located a little off the main drag so you do have the feeling of isolation, even with the marina next door, but it is still located in the middle of all the amenities of the island. We went to the grocery store for snacks and drinks to keep in the kitchenette and went out for seafood each night.

Breakfast came each day which included a bagel, danish, and some fresh fruit. We had left her a message one night saying we would be heading to the everglades early so we wouldn't be there for breakfast. She left a message back saying she would wrap it up and put it in the fridge for when we got back.

The room was clean and the bed was super comfy. A DVD player instead of a VCR would have been nice but we didn't watch any TV other than to check the weather for the following day.

On a waterfront point on Largo Sound with cooling wind during warm days and nights. Had most everything we could want with manager Susie to supply whatever we were lacking for our suite. Lots of privacy with only 3 other suites and a small of amount of boat docking guests. I really enjoyed the dipping pool on the warm nights with the full moon glowing. There is a hammock to chill on at the sandy point. Tarpon Flats is within walking distance to 2 great, super casual restaurants with nice employees and terrific food. We could not use their kayaks as the winds were very high while we were there or would have. There are 2 picnic areas and one large BBQ grill. Lots of chairs and lounges spread out on the property. It is now my husband's favorite place to stay in Key Largo after 30 years of diving in the Keys. That is saying alot as he is a man of few words. We stayed in the Jungle Suite on the first floor by the canal. Thank you Susie for your wonderful hospitality!!!
