We have lived in Key Largo for several years and couldn't wait for The Mandalay to reopen. Unfortunately, we won't return. We gave it three tries and just can't see ourselves going back. Pros: The food is okay. The Blue cheese horseradish dressing and soups are good. The Cons: There is no shortage of employees but service is really slow. On the first run we were the only people there and management waited to seat us until after he had a few 'discussions' with employees. Second visit. The service was really slow, in spite of the fact that employees outnumbered guests 3 to 1. Third visit. The service was again really slow (soup and salad?) The credit card machine was down and took them quite awhile to allow us to pay with a local check. They were quite apologetic but still. If you are a tourist and have a lot of time to spare you may want to check it out but if you are a local and on a schedule I suggest you head to another place.

We apologize greatly to all who received a long wait to be seated, a long time to be served food, and not our normal quality of food and service. While we always hope to operate and serve perfectly, on this day two unfortunate things happened which affected service and operations.
Visa and MasterCard credit card processing was down nationally for about 45 minutes Sunday and this affected some of our guests with our ability and speed of closing checks. While this was out of our control, we apologize and have setup systems to still take credit cards during a national down period.
Additionally, one of our lead cooks was involved in an accident on the 18 mile stretch leading into the Keys (thankfully no injuries to any party). This caused our kitchen to run short the entire shift and we were not able to provide our usual level of great flavorful homemade food served in a reasonable timeframe.
While these were outside influences, they did affect the running of the restaurant and we let our guests down. We are embarrassed and apologize to all who were negatively affected and ask of you another chance to show you the great food, ambiance, and service that we do provide on a daily basis.
