Having stayed at Marriott's quite often, I had high expectations. I was a little surprised to find this Marriott is exterior corridor and found the rooms quite small, though pleasantly decorated. My travel companions and I had dinner at gus's grill and I was expecting a Marriott worthy dinner, especially for the price I paid. It was some of the worse seafood I have had in years - this from someone who eats out 4-5 times a week. The food came out cold. The veggies were cold, discolored and extremely overcooked, more like thrice heated. My companions' food was also cold- with some lukewarm in the middle. not worth the $28-$32 per plate. The server did not offer to do anything when adviced of the issues, but then she probably hears complaints all night. The staff just doesn't give a darn here. We witnessed hostess handling others foods with her bare hands.
Bedtime, I had asked in advance for foam pillows, as I am allergic to feather. This request was not met. I called and after the poor guy ran around checking vacant rooms, he found me some pillows that were more worthy of the trash than a Marriott bed. The were flat, lumpy, discolored with no pillowcase protector. I have had better pillows at a Super 8. Other Marriott's I stay in have plenty of fluffy foam pillows on the bed as well as the feather. but this marriott just doesn't do much up to Marriott's standard. Well, then I pulled the sheets back and found blood on my sheets. It looked like housekeeping had probably cut themselves and dripped it on the sheets. I called down to ask for a clean set of sheets, just to be safe. When I explained the situation, I didn't even get in as much as an apology, actually the operator practically hung up on me. My companion's duvet cover had chocolate like stains on it. It was gross.
Oh, don't drink out of the glasses here. They clearly aren't cleaned and sanitized properly. I found particles in every glass in the room, amongst the particles were white fibers from the cleaning rags. Yeah, instead of keeping enough cups on hand to send through a dishwasher, this place is cheap enough that I am sure they just look the other way when the housekeepers wash cups with glass cleaner and the last guest's dirty wash cloth. Bottom line they were not clean and I would advice you not to drink from them. More weirdness when we used the styrofoam coffee cups and threw them away, only to be left a fresh set of dirty ones the next day, with coffee still in the bottom.
This place really isn't the equivilent of a Marriott, more like a Ramada. I would advice either keeping very low expectations or simply skipping this place for somewhere else in the Keys.
