“Pool area and view make this a great key largo choic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

Our family had both a bay view room and a non bay side room. I agree with other reviews that this is not the finest quality Marriott. Rooms are a bit dated and they really should have refrigerators in each room. They also have a pool towel policy that doesn't meet my expectations at this type of property. I suspect that during a busier time they may be losing towels, but I prefer and overabundance of pool towels, not a limited amount that you are monitored for with a card system. Despite theses small annoyances, the relaxing view and nice pool area made me add an extra star. The desk staff was also accommodating and professional. Overall, a nice place

Room Tip: Bay side does have loud pool music all night. Non bay view was much quieter.

“Not the greatest marriott but...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013 via mobile

Service is hit or miss. Some staff members are wonderful (cleaning, front desk, Gus restaurant). Some staff members are subpar (poolside bar/grill, towel service). Room was a bit small but adequate. Worth paying extra for a balcony which we didn't have. The pool is heated so its always nice and warm. Hot tub is lovely. Beach is nice for this area but not as nice as beaches in Miami beach. Lots if restaurants nearby and 3 dining options on site (although they all come from one kitchen strangely). Dive shop on site with jet ski and kayak rentals. Note that kayak rentals are cheaper over at pennekamp state park which is 5 minutes away. Beds are comfy. Parking is free. Front desk offers cookies and fruit for a snack all day long.

“Nice Rooms, Older Property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

I stayed here for 4 nights for a sales conference. I am a Marriott general member.

Location: The hotel is right off Hwy 1 in Key Largo. Being in the Florida Keys, it's away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The hotel is situated between the highway and the water. There are a few restaurants and bars located within walking distance of the hotel.

Check-In: A bunch of us arrived around 6pm on a Saturday night, so it took some time to get checked-in, but that was expected. The staff was friendly and everything about the property was explained in detail.

Property/Room: I ended up with a standard double room on the top floor. The door faces an open area, too small to be a courtyard, but annoying enough because you can hear anyone talking outside from any of the floors. One night there were a bunch of kids who were running around screaming until 1am. Aside from that issue, the room itself was pretty nice. It felt very comfortable. The furnishings were good and the bed was excellent. The best part about the room was the balcony with the partial view of the ocean. It was nice to just sit out there and enjoy the breeze.

The property is pretty big, with a small private beach, sand volleyball court, pool, bar, and restaurants. The design of the hotel looks old (70's or 80's?), but they managed to make the most of it.

Amenities: Aside from the small private beach and pool, the resort also has a gym, spa, and access to rentals for watersports. There is also a gift shop that sells a lot of souvenirs, but I thought it was a bit too expensive. I ended up buying things from Miami airport on my way home.

Service: The staff was friendly and I had no issues during my stay. Housekeeping did a good job.

Overall it was a good experience. If you can get past the appearance of the property, you will be ok.

“A decent hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013 via mobile

We (a family of 5 from the UK) stayed here for 4 nights in 2 'standard' adjacent rooms in early January booked through the Marriott website for a special rate of around $185+tax per room per night. Upon arrival, the hotel wasn't too impressive - it certainly didn't feel like a fairly expensive Marriott property. However, the longer we stayed, the more we warmed to the hotel for the following reasons: 1) child friendly, 2) very friendly staff, 3) great value breakfast - a full buffet for the kids was just $5.95+ tax per child and around $16 for adults, 4) great pool, 5) free wifi and plenty of free parking, 6) great value happy hour food and drink deals every evening. True, the beach is small and the pool gets busy but we never struggled to bag sun loungers. I did initially wish that we had booked more expensive 'bay view' rooms but, in the event, the standard rooms were fine and significantly cheaper - we were on the top floor, road noise was not a problem and many of the 'bay view' rooms only seemed to have a limited bay view. We also considered a 2 bed family suite but these were very expensive and around 50% more expensive than booking 2 separate rooms. If you are after high end luxury, this hotel probably isn't for you - otherwise, i am happy to recommend it and we certainly enjoyed our stay.

“We enjoyed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

Read the reviews and under circumstances, stayed and enjoyed the property. elite member benefit snack package! Front desk was great, room was renovated. Property exterior seems dated if you can get past that. Pool, beach, and sunset were amazing. On-propoerty kayak, ski-doo rentals is a nice touch, we did kayak. Did not try Gus Grill based on reviews but did have pool foods and was suffice. pool service staff was great. It is pricey and would debate trying somewhere else but there isnt much. Nice experience.

Room Tip: pool/water view, high floor.
