“Comfort with Beauty and great for the budget!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2007

I like this place. It is laid back, but with confidence. The rooms, appliances and facilities are handled well and professionally.
Our room was on the corner marina view, nice and quiet!
8 pillows adorned our king bed, and the room was already nice and chilly from the A/C being on. Good Start!
We grabbed several of the brochures in the lobby and started planning our weekend. We finally decided to take the free SunCruz Gambling excersion, and then the Keys Diver Snorkling boat the next day. We will pass on SunCruz next time, unless you like to smoke. Don't get me wrong, it was fun and we did enjoy winning at Roulette and watching the reef sharks swim around, but it is a small ship (78') and the ammenities are WYSIWYG. Its FREE though, so give it a whirl.

We ordered room service twice - once for appetizers and the other for breakfast. Appetizers: Coconut Shrimp (ick) and Conch Fritters (ok). If you're drunk, you'll think you're eating caviar.
The breakfast buffet is a wise choice. The eggs, meats, and make your own belgian waffle are worth the price alone. Grits, potatoes and heat your own toast are just icing!

Breakfast in bed was split: My hubby got the french toast which was very yummy. I got steak and eggs. the eggs were perfect, but the steak was mostly like fried shoe.

The pool and tiki bar are so welcoming and relaxing. I loved the breeze from the water and the people/guests that were among us.

I will be back to the Holiday Inn Key Largo. Of course I filled my comment slips, so I only expect that conditions will be much improved by my return!

  • Liked — A/C and bed with tons of pillows
  • Disliked — The food was quite poor in quality and preparation

We've been coming down to the Keys for 20 years and you can't beat the Holiday Inn Key Largo. We had flown the Red Eye on Jet Blue to Ft. Lauderdale & came in to the Holiday Inn at 10am. They were friendly and let us check in early. The room was spacious with a wonderful view overlooking the marina. There is a small refrigerator. I wish, though, there had been a microwave because every night we were getting take out and bringing it back to the room. Although we didn't use their pools and Tiki Bar, we found Pennakamp State Beach to be great for some snorkeling and sunbathing. We also went out diving at the Holiday Isle Dive Center. They are terrific . Everything around Key Largo is right there from Walgreens to the Bank of America. Coconuts Night Club is average. If you want the best hang out go to Sharkeys right next door for cheap Happy Hour drinks and excellent food plus bar munchies. If you have a chance, drive down to Key Marathon and please go down to the Dolphin Research Center . They have a wonderful show on how they train the dolphins and for a little extra price you can have a picture with you high fiveing the dolphins. The only thing I wish the Holiday Inn had was a private beach but you're so close to so many state parks, you can easily drive to them.

  • Liked — Location and spacious room.
  • Disliked — They don't have microwaves in the rooms. No private beach.

We just spent two nights at this hotel. I can not say anything bad about it. It was very clean and the room was spacious. The pool was nice in a tropical setting. We had a marina view room. I don't think I would have enjoyed an alternate view because it could have been a view of the parking lot. The front desk manager was very nice. The location was convenient for water sports. However, if I had to do it over again, I would have booked at the Hampton Inn in Islamorado. It had a lovely ocean view and a complimenatary breakfast. It is an easy ride from Key Largo. Be sure to visit Bayside Marina!

First time driving down to the keys from Pensacola. Thought we should break it up and stay in Key Largo, before heading to Key West. Loved the pictures online of the Holiday Inn, and would say the hotel was everything travelocity said. It was clean, spacious and offered two pools, sit down dining with bar (although this never appeared to have more than 2 patrons), and was close to many attractions. Nothing special, but good deal for the money.

It is within walking distance of one of the biggest bars/clubs (Coconuts) -- which wasn't that great of a club, but had nice staff and drink/appetizer specials. And this hotel also directly offers the SunCruz Casino trip, multiple times 7 days a week. It leaves directly from the hotel, which is convenient. Make sure to bring coupon from within room, otherwise they'll charge you 5 bucks per person. On a side note, I was very unimpressed with SunCruz's boat (very small and crowded), food (lukewarm and poor quality) and drink prices (if you're not playing, they'll charge you an arm & leg; playing only offers single well drinks for free) and would not do it again!.

Overall:
Pros--great location, right off of main street, with clean rooms
Cons - very noisy housekeeping carts which woke us up both mornings, overly expensive morning buffet

We were just planning on going to Key West but ended up staying 3 nights at the Holiday Inn and it was the best move we ever made. The hotel was the whole package. The rooms were nice and affordable. There is a tiki bar with live music and a pool with a waterfall. There were 4 restaurants right in walking distance and every activity we wanted on property. There are fishing boats, diving boats, snorkel boats, and a casino boat that all leave right from the hotel. We went on the casino boat one night and since we are not certified we went snorkeling on this giant 49 ft catamaran called quicksilver. That trip is a must we have 2 small girls and they can't stop talking about how they got to help drive the boat. The crew were super friendly and educated. The hotel also has a restauant and buffet style breakfast every morning. We did end up going to key west but just for one night and headed back up to key largo.

Stayed here overnight with my sister. The room was comfortable and quiet. We enjoyed the porch and marina view. Walked to a nearby restaurant for a nice outdoor dinner. The location so close to John Pennekamp park (4 miles away) was perfect for catching the first snorkeling trip (If you haven't done it before-this was the highlight of my vacation), before heading to the lower keys.

  • Disliked — Parking at some distance from our room. It was necessary to carry our suitcases up several flights of stairs

We stayed here for 2 nights in January and I have nothing but great things to say about this hotel. We booked a Marina View room which I would recommend.

We booked this hotel as we were doing the dolphin swim at Dolphin Plus (31 Corrine Pl.) and it was fantastic (you must do this). We were there on 7th Jan and the place was empty so had lots of dolphin time - a great experience.

Back to the hotel - had a nice pool area and the bar around the pool was nice. There were a couple of restaurants near the hotel which were ok but I would really recommend the Bayside Grill. You can walk this from the hotel and it is worth booking. We booked early and got a table right on the balcony that gave us fantastic sunset views whilst we had a great meal.......if you stay at the Holiday Inn you need to eat here or you are missing out on something special.

Overall, a nice, clean holiday inn, nice room with good views and gave us everything we expected.
