“Beyond Great!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

My family and friends stayed at KLSC for 3 days .and 4 nights. We got there Friday evening April 26 and left around lunchtime of Tuesday April 30, 2013. From the time we got there our experience was beyond great. Excellent staff!! Very accommodating and friendly, The place we stayed was very clean and homey as if I want to live there. The amenities, equipment and activities was way beyond my expectations. The Sunset Sailing Cruise was one of a kind experience , The panoramic view and a photography bonanza was another added bonus of the trip. I intend to share with my friends and colleagues this experience which was Beyond Great! Quoting Gen. MCarthur of WWII fame " I Shall Return" plus with a vengeance!!! Right!

Room Tip: Talk to Mayette. She can handle your needs!

First, try to find the Key Lime Sailing Club....If you are looking for the location DON'T expect a cute quaint group of Cottages with a old Key West style sign expect to look for a BOAT JUNK YARD and if you come in the dark GOOD LUCK since they move the mailbox in at night with the only address on it. Second, the accomadations WOW what can one say...an outside shower that is so scarey I would not wash my dog in it. Oh and speaking of dogs (I have two service dogs ) the advertisement states DOG FRIENDLY ~ but as soon as we arrived the management asked us to leave with YES licensed by the state insured for 1 million each service dogs. Oh and do not expect a refund after they ask you to leave (Denying a service dog is a Civil Crime of the Federal ADA laws, and a Criminal Crime under Florida State laws. Penalties can be compounded) Yes we had to call our lawyer to stay...CRAZY. A hygiene issue was in the bathroom sign posted stated not to put anything in the toilet to throw it into the waste basket...yes gross. I had to kill many a cock roaches every morning and the A/C unit barely kept the bedroom cool. please have a look at the pictures if you do not believe my words. What we liked best about this Key West Dump was that we could escape by sailing away on one of there 22 ft sailboats.

We absolutely LOVE KLSC! We have stayed there twice so far and plan to go back for many visits to come. The staff is always willing to help you with your needs. It is a sailing rental, so if you want to sail the days away and want a nice, clean place to stay at night, it is perfect. The captains will help you plot your day voyage to get the most out of your stay, recommending plenty of day sail trips around the keys. It is very quiet and peaceful. You can use any of their kayaks and paddle boards as well, and they have snorkel stuff you can use if you don't want to bring it with you OR if you lose a part of your gear :o) Sometimes manatee come up to the dock and it is so amazing to sit and watch them swim around the dock. Publix is just down the street so you can either eat out and nearby restaurants, or like we did...cook a simple meal from your cottage. The staff will tell you where to buy the cheapest ice too! We love the cute little cottages and even the (covered and private) outdoor showers are great! I can't say enough about the KLSC. We love it and have many memories sailing out of there with our daughter, kayaking around manatee, and paddle boarding. The owner, Paul, even took us out on his private cat for a sunset sail. Awesome place...

Room Tip: I can't really comment on kids activities...our kid (teenager) loves to be outside and is perfec...

This is not the hilton by any stretch of the imagination but then again, i was not looking to stay at a hilton. We stayed at the Owner's Cottage which was perfect for a family of 3. Loved the private deck and bbq, 2 bedrooms, full size fridge in the kitchen + they provide you with coolers for your use on day trips, and space to move around. The use of a sailboat and equipment made things so much easier. Dave was incredibly awesome in helping us and was always on top of things.
So you know you had a good time when:
- you get to be a total bum and nobody cares what you look like including you
- your kid lets you sleep in in the morning and says "good morning mom, i'm going outside to play. have a good sleep" and it's okay because it's safe to do that and everyone staying there knows who your child is, including the other vacationers so everyone is watching out for everyone else's kids
- your kid comes in dirty and happy after dark and passes out for the night without complaints
- you get to read a book from front to back without interruptions...which in my case has not been possible for the last 4 years!
- every sunset is beautiful, the weather is perfect, and when you take a paddle board out at dusk, you are treated to the sight of dolphins
- you can throw all your crap on their sailboat and disappear for the whole day without a care in the world
- giant iguanas walk across the beach like squirrels cross the road
- starbucks is a short walk away, the grocery store is too, and amazing snorkelling can be found on site as well as just up the road

this is a great place to relax because it's so laid back. people are friendly but not in-your-face-friendly so there's never a feeling that you "have to" socialize. it's private but not isolated, it's safe for kids, it's small but not crowded, it's a great little pocket. we would definitely go back again.

Room Tip: we stayed at the captain's cottage and the owner's cottage...they are side by side. owner...

Everything was as expected and very good and recommendable. We stayed at the main house and it is a very nice place in general. The refrigerator had an extremely bad fish smell. Might better use a cooler and ice insteadinstead. Visitors should better know that due to local sewer restrictions they are asked to discard all toilet paper in a bag, not in the toilet itself.

We just got back from our second week stay. It is soooo..... keysian-funky,relaxed and a rare opportunity to rent a sailboat and get a cottage too. There's a great city park close by for a walk. We'll be going back again next year. There are other longer beaches at nearby state parks. As someone else mentioned there is a fish market nearby. The absolutely best key lime pie in the universe. The local hogfish and yellowtail were incredible grilled on foil in butter, lime and cilantro. We saw dolphins on three separate days during our second stay. The first time we had a truly magical experience with the dolphins. It was a group of at least 50 and as we sailed back and forth thru the group they would swim towards the bow and then do a quick turn around to sail with us. This went on for 45 minutes. One of our best animal encounters ever. This year we saw the dolphins but they didn't interact with us at all but still made our day. Happy Sailing.

Key Lime Sailing Club is a collection of cottages, most attached, off the main road. The cottages come with a bare sailboat, which is unique. When my husband and I tried to find a place with a cottage or condo, with a sailboat, in Florida, the options were extremely limited. We were very happy to find Key Lime. We've stayed twice, both times in February. First, we stayed in the Sailfish, which is suitable for a couple. The second time we stayed in the Captain's, which has more sitting space. Both are funky Keys cottage in decorating style, which is so fun and colorful. The cottages remind me in size and function of Michigan Great Lakes cottages - small, with outdoor sitting space. Tile floors, open doors and windows, and an outdoor shower add to the fun camping ambiance. The sailboats are great and well maintained, but note that electronics are removed due to the high maintenance in the salt water environment. We have so enjoyed spending the day sailing and finding dolphins to sail with us. Then we relaxed and grilled in our cabin's outdoor space or in the common tiki hut space. This place is not elegant but you won't find better service anywhere. Join the group for a captain's evening sail.

Room Tip: Look for the cottages closer to the water for more quiet and distance from road noise.
