We went to get a vacation before the kids started school. The girls (Quell, Kymone, and Chondra) at the front desk were so friendly and helpful. The cookies in the afternoon were a hit, our boys would walk up there every afternoon and load up platefuls. The iguanas around the property were awesome. The boys would get a banana from the awesome breakfast served in the morning and feed the iguanas in the afternoon. The beach was perfect, unlike some other hotels that have sand and a break wall. Make sure you Google Map the hotel you are thinking about choosing to see if they have sand, or sand and water you can actually walk into and enjoy. The beach at the Hampton you can walk right into the water and relax. The boys would swim around, snorkel, and fish off the dock at the beach, which made it perfect for us to hang with them and get some R&R at the same time. The beach is not huge, but it is more than adequate for the number of guests. Don the bartender is a really cool cat and his parrot "Mango" was a great picture taker. When the boys went fishing off the dock and needed a needlenose or scissors the maintenance staff (Tony and Robert) brought it out to them and were more than happy to help and give them some fishing tips. We were kind of bummed when we got to the last night of our trip and had not seen a Manatee, but then at dusk one swam up and we got a few pictures before he took off. Awesome!!!!
The room itself was not huge, but it was more than adequate for us with 2 teenage boys. We slept on the king bed, we pulled out the sofa bed, and the hotel brought us a rollaway bed. The bathroom is big and modern, and the fridge and microwave really came in handy for those mid day snacks the boys always wanted. The Hampton is close to everything in Key Largo.
All of our friends said we needed to go down to Key West to really experience the Keys. So we booked our first 3 nights at the Hampton Inn Key Largo, and then 3 nights in Key West. The room in Key West was amazing, huge, modern, clean, full kitchen, 2 bedrooms, etc. But, after 30 mins in the pool, no access to get in the ocean over the break wall, and the craziness of Key West, we decided to stay only 1 night and head back to The Hampton Inn in Key Largo. If you are younger and looking to party the night away, Key West is your place. As a family, the staff, the beach, the iguanas, the cookies, the breakfast, the laid back feel, the fun of the Hampton was it, so we headed back to Key Largo.
It was a tough choice reading through all the reviews on Tripadvisor on hotels in Key Largo and Key West, but The Hampton Inn was always at the top. You absolutely can not go wrong staying at The Hampton Inn Key Largo. We all said it was the best vacation we have had and would love to go back to the Hampton Inn again. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone that is thinking of going to the Keys.
