You know the bit in Toy Story where Woody says to Buzz "YOU ARE A TOY" Well, you could say, in the same manner, to the Bayside "YOU ARE A MOTEL" A little bit of delusions of grandeur here methinks. As such the rooms were standard, very clean, staff very helpful, location very good but it is not a resort. The "beach" measured 10 paces across, the pool was crowded with 2 people in it, the "breakfast" a little on the meagre side and when I asked to hire some snorkelling gear - as stated on their website- they looked at me as if I was an alien from Mars.
On the plus side the sunsets were stunning, Snooks was good and our trips to Pennecamp State Park brilliant. If you go to the park take the snorkel tour out to the reefs and swim as if you're in an aquarium. Stunning views of fish of all colours.
Perhaps I'm being a little unkind, because our stay encountered no problems at all and was very peaceful but I would just say "you're a motel, get over it!

Stayed here one night on our way to Keywest. Thought is was a nice property on the water with a great view of the bay with a great sunset. Snooks next door was very entertaining in the evening for a drink and music. Our room was on the 3rd floor and was large enough for a overnite stay and very clean. Thought it was a great value for the location on the water. Went to Tugboats for dinner and it was very good and inexpensive for Keylargo. I would stay here again just to watch the sunset. The breakfast could be better..

My husband and I stayed at Bayside Resort for 2 nights in April. I was nervous as the price was so good compared to other hotels in Key Largo I did not know what to expect. We were pleased, yes the room was small but how much time do you spend in the room? We don't eat breakfast normally so a cup of coffee and danish were fine for us. We also were able to use the hotel computer to check our emails. The pool was small but satisfactory. Close to everything - we booked a snorkel tour with a local company and had a great time. You get what you pay for and we were surprising glad we stayed here at a very reasonable cost so we could spend our $$ elsewhere.

Our first night we found the room to smell strongly of a sickly perfume.Later,I found the beds reeked of a sour smoke like odor.Although I did request a no smoking room......None were available at the time.I advised the front desk that We would be leaving early to find better accomadations, the somewhat arrogant clerk said I will leave a note for housekeeping....To their credit, they swapped out both beds. This solved the problem..Continental breakfast was a joke.....Beach was 1/8'' of sand over hard coral, pool was miniscule, room had a view of employee parking.Snooks Rest. menu was uninviting and we had to listen to their depressing bar singers while at the pool.

My husband and I are currently arguing about how to rate this place. He feels we should rate it 4 stars, namely because of the location, right on the water (we had a beautiful view of the water). While I agree about the view, I was underwhelmed with the decor of the room and the fact that it needed some major updating. We had king sized bed, porch, fridge, and a large closet. The price was good ($125/night). Beware, however, the rooms vary quite a bit in size, quality and view. Our traveling companions did not have any view. Room selection was important, so make sure you have a conversation with the front desk. Nice owner, but uneven staff.

We will not be returning to Key Largo, there are better places to go in Florida. Beaches are inadequate, tacky main strip, poor use of waterfront areas. The highlights: go to Pink Junktique vintage store, Snooks restaurant, John Pennekamp state park.

  • Liked — promxity to water, cost, view from our room (not all rooms have it, though)
  • Disliked — Room needed updating, Key Largo
