“A great Florida Beach Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

Visit Crandon Park Beach, walk north and you are on a beach with only the jungle dunes behind you. Hollywood movies were filmed here. Like, "They Were Expendable." & "PT Boat 109" This is the old Florida before the growth after World War Two. Romantic tropical privacy still here. Try to behave yourself. Police patrol on houseback, sometimes. Skinnydip opportunities.

“Quiet, clean beach, lovely area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

Came here for one day during our 5 day stay in Miami in Nov. Took the bus here so no entry fee. Apparently there is a national park further down the road, would have gone there too if we'd had a car and more time. Lovely beach, white sand, clear water. Not too many people when we were there (mid week). Toilets and changing rooms were nice and clean in the main block, smaller toilet block nearer us (we were between life guard station 5 & 6) was closed. Walked further down the beach and decided it was not as nice at that end b/c lots of high rise buildings which you can't see from further up. Would recommend beach area from life guard station 6 and up, looked quite nice beyond station 4 though didn't walk that way. Did some snorkelling, saw quite a few fish, lots of sand dollars. Much prefer this to the "place to be seen" vibe of South Beach. Lots of facilities eg picnic benches, basketball courts. Didn't see any places to eat but we had food with us anyway. Would consider visiting again if returning to the area.

“Clear Waters”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

I prefer the beaches at Crandon to Miami Beach because the water is so much more clear, the sand is not ground up shells and there are not as many waves. Much cleaner and the free sanctuary is on the grounds (peacocks, iguanas, birds, etc).

“Great Family Beach!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

We go here a few times each Summer. There is a North side and a South side. We always go to the South Beach. (Not to be confused with Miami’s South Beach). This is a large, busy beach with long white sandy beaches and a wavy water beach. It’s a great place for sunbathing as well as swimming and playing.

There is also a nice kids area that has a playground, a water feature and a merry go round (for a small fee). On the weekends, I believe they also have a petting zoo for a small fee.

There is a nature walk/garden area that used to be an old zoo. There are lots of birds – ducks, peacocks, egrets, etc as well as huge iguanas. We’ve also seen crocodiles here on occasion. The old cages from the zoo are still there and they are kinda cool to look at as well.

There is a snack bar that has things like hot dogs, hamburgers, soda, ice cream, etc. I believe they sell beer as well. If you prefer to bring your own, there are grills and picnic tables galore. You can also rent a pavilion if you like.

On weekends they have bike rentals (single and doubles) which make exploring even more fun.

There is a cost for parking; I think it’s about $6 per car.

Overall, this is our favorite family beach in Miami. If you are looking for more of a party atmosphere, Miami South Beach is the place to go.

“Stunning Beachfront”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

Amazing vistas and beautiful surroundings. Great for family picnics and fun to stroll through the former "Miami Zoo" where I remember going to as a young girl growing up in Miami.
