Located at the southern most point of Key Biscayne you'll happen upon the Bill Baggs State Park and the Cape Florida Lighthouse. The lighthouse is apparently the oldest standing structure built in Miami Dade County, dating back to 1825! Today's its managed, and very well from the looks of the clean and manicured grounds, by the National Park Service. We didn't happen to visit on a day that the light house was open for tours, but the surrounding area is full with things to see and information plaques placed throughout the walking trails around the lighthouse that give you all the relevant historical information. Afterwards we walked over to the public beach area on the north side of the lighthouse. This has easily got to be the best kept secret of a great beach in Florida. Key Biscayne beach by the lighthouse blows South Beach away! The beach is pristine, clean, natural, and best of all... calm! There was not a lot of people there. A perfect beach to enjoy a relaxing and serene nature experience with the sounds of the water and the sun on your face. Highly recommended. Tip - There is a $5 vehicle entrance fee to coming into the State park area. Worth it !!
