“Ritz Carlton in Key Biscayne”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

My wife and I took a short two day trip to South Florida over the Valentine weekend, and since we were with friends one night, we decided to enjoy the luxury of a Ritz on Saturday night to spoil ourselves just a little bit. Overall, we were very satisfied.

The approach to the hotel is pretty beautiful. You cross over the water to Key Biscayne, and proceed down the main road for just a few minutes before being able to enter the driveway to the RC. It's impressive from the start. As you snake through the winding road, you come upon the rather grandly large hotel, and as you'd expect, the service from the moment of arrival is A+. First the car valets, to the bellhops and on the front desk, the staff is well trained on being friendly and approachable, almost looking for ways to help you. I, too, liked the option of water or a glass of champagne -- nice touch!

The room was on the fourth floor looking out over the entranceway to the hotel, not the ocean, so that was disappointing, but for one night, I accepted it and got in the groove. The room was not large, but it was fine. The bed extremely comfortable; the bathroom shower was large (could fit two very easily); the towels were luxurious; and the flooring was very nice. The location near the elevator was ok except when crying kids were being ignored by their parents!

We committed to a full 24 hours on site -- cocktails shortly after our arrival; dinner at Cioppino's; then just hang out Sunday by the ocean until time to head to the airport and home. We chose a lousy weekend for weather, but that was purely bad luck. The setting is beautiful -- right on the ocean with both an adult pool and a family pool. Unfortunately, the jacuzzi is in the family area, and why they don't have one in the adult area is surprising. There's a nice central quad area separating the two pools that the kids use for football, etc; and the beach is amply stocked with beach chairs and umbrellas.

We hung out on some comfortable chairs just off the beach and read for most of the day as stated earlier, it was cold for Miami and a little windy. Overall, a very nice 24 hours at the Ritz in Key Biscayne. We enjoyed our brief visit.

Room Tip: Push for an ocean view -- there are plenty of them!

Surprising how a hotel if this reputation would serve such marginal food in all its restaurants. Prices are out of sight and this from a New Yorker who eats out at the best.

The staff however deserves great kudos at every resort destination. They aim to please and attend to your every need.

Would I come back here? Maybe.

We spent 3 nights at the Ritz last week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We found, at check in, that we were booked in a bay view room. We requested an ocean view room and they were happy to accommodate us. The room was fine and had a balcony with a partial ocean view. The grounds and beach are beautiful. I was surprised that there was a charge for beach umbrellas.
The adult pool was lovely and quiet. Service at the pool was perfect. Everyone was served water mellow slices in the morning and pretzels in the afternoon. The Dune burger bar (next to the adult pool) is lovely with comfortable exterior furniture placed in groups around the bar. The Cantina was not as appealing so we did not try it. Cippiano - the main restaurant. The cuisine is Italian and the food is very good. Service at dinner was a bit slow due to a huge wedding and other meetings being held. The interior space is very large and does not have a feel of intimacy. We requested patio seating which gave a view of the sky and was much smaller space. The Rumbar inside the hotel is lovely and dripping in leather. Fabulous! If you walk the beach, north of the hotel, you will come upon Camden Beach which is beautiful. Walk into the park to see hundreds of exotic birds roaming freely.

If you walk the beach, south, you will walk through a National Park and see a lighthouse at the end of the beach.
At the north end of the Key Biscayne bridge sits a beautiful museum I highly recommend visiting.

The spa is quite lovely and peaceful. I had a fabulous massage. A service charge is automatically added to your bill.

Room Tip: Request ocean view.

There's something magical about the Ritz-Carlton and I applaud their considerable efforts in the area of exceeding guest expectations. We decided to splurge for a last night after a vacation and selected this location near MIA. We were greeted very cordially from Mario who immediately arranged for two welcome stems of champagne. Checked in, for some strange reason upgraded, and out of no where our bags were gone and we were slowly walking to our room enjoying the incredible decor throughout the main floor. This Ritz-Carlton, like most others, is a feast for all the senses, so I encourage exploring the grounds, artwork, walls, sculptures and various rooms---all gorgeous.

Our room was near an elevator, normally a bad thing, however the "whirring" of elevator cables was barely noticeable. We enjoyed a stunning room service feast delivered on time, hot, and it was perfect. The linens are world class and you definitely find yourself getting lost in the comfort of the bed.

The outdoor areas are terrific including an adults only pool, open pool and outstanding beach. We stayed on the beach and greatly enjoyed merely raising a flag when a refreshing drink was needed. We checked out at noon, however were aloud to use all the services until our 9pm flight. This allowed us to shower in the spa in the evening, change clothes and arrive at the airport refreshed.

The food was terrific, the staff incredible and the hospitality exceptional. We will be back.

I absolutely love the RC Key Biscayne. From the minute you walk in and smell their signature mango candles that are all over the resort, you instantly feel relaxed. I have been here many times and have recently started to come here as a family now that I have a 1 year old daughter. This hotel is the perfect place to stay in Miami if you have a family. It is extremely kid friendly (the staff is really accomodating, they give you a pack and play to keep my the pool if you want, will provide you will an empty fridge for your room and of course have cribs, etc.). They also have a zero entry family pool which is beautiful and really wonderful for kids. The Key Biscayne RC is a lovely little island oasis in the middle of Miami that makes you feel like you are at a proper beach resort instead of a hotel in the middle of the City. The one downside is that the food and drinks at the pool and at the restaurants is VERY expensive.. but it is a Ritz Carlton so its to be expected.

Everything about this hotel oozes luxury. The moment you arrive, you just know you will be well taken care of. Our room, 787, was perfectly situated in a quiet little corner of the hotel with a fabulous ocean view, this room was promptly given to us after we told the front desk that we weren't happy with our original room. They know how to make things right. Thank you Terrance! Our days were spent lounging on the hotel beach while being catered to by the attentive staff. We enjoyed the hotel food so much, that we practically ate there the entire vacation and most of it was spent at the beach bar with Frank, Ali (King of Turkeys), and Sarah, all of them served up fantastic drinks, guacamole, chipotle chicken wraps and chicken fajitas, along with great conversation and lots of laughs...we just couldn't get enough! Thanks to Elmer who made sure all of our desires were met. We can't wait to visit again! Oh..and whoever the late night chef is...we LOVE your penne pasta with spinach and spicy herb tomato sauce...it's like a party in your mouth. : )

I received exactly what I expected...Great service, room was beautiful and clean. Only thing was that one of three of the elevators were not working when we first arrived Friday, which made it a little hectic on the first floor lobby, however it was fixed by Saturday morning. The staff was so helpful. Will defiantly return when traveling to Miami.
