“A Horse Friendly Place, Not a People Friendly Place”

Okay, just went out today 6-14-08 and just got home. Drove all the way from Daytona Beach on a recommendation from a friend and I was very disappointed. I took my girlfriend for her 21st birthday.

The horses are amazing. They were clean, tame, and very well trained for the ride. They for the most part did all the steering and we just went for a ride. There was nothing bad about the horses.

The trip started sour when my girlfriend was offered to get on a horse first to demonstrate how to ride while they instructed her in front of everyone. There were two guides, one male and one female (the female was nice). The male did the instructing; there were more insults than instructions. He made comments about how he doesn't know how she has a driver's license because she obviously can't follow directions (in front of everybody) then proceeded to laugh after all of his own jokes. These kind of comments went on for about 5 minutes.

The walk through the trails and on the beach had great scenery, but like one other reviewer said, you may as well take this ride alone, because if you're with anyone else on the ride you won't be able to hardly look at them until you get done.

Walmart has better customer service. I feel horrible because I could have chosen to give my girlfriend a different present for her birthday, and instead I ended up giving her one that she hated. She gave it so much of a chance to like it, but we were treated like the guides couldn't wait to get everyone off the horses. The workers/guides had no personality - it really was an assembly line process. It's the kind of service where when you get there they point to a stack of papers and say "fill out a waiver", then when your done they say "take it and go pay here". After that... "come with me I'll get you on your horse". Very dry and not an enjoyable group of people to be around (the guides weren't enjoyable, the whole party I was with had more of a friendly character).

I have been to other horseback riding ranches, and Kelly Seahorse Ranch is in business to make money, not because they enjoy their job. They seem to love working with horses, but they're horrible at dealing with people. Overall I would've waited or driven (seriously, I would've forked over the extra money to fly somewhere else just to go to a different ranch). I chose Kelly Ranch because of the recommendation I got and the beach scenery. In the end we gave up about 8 hours and $120 that we can't get back.

“Great experience on the ride; customer service issues”

If I was to rate just the experience of the horseback ride, I probably would have given it 4/5. There was a little more to it that left me with a bad taste.
The experience of horseback riding through the tropical trails and on the beach was one that I won't soon forget. The scenery was beautiful, and seeing it on horseback was fantastic. If you have never experienced this, I would highly recommend it...that is, if you have the means.
I agree with a previous reviewer. It is expensive for an hour long ride, and the price for a photo, which was not of the best quality by the look of the proofs, is ridiculous.
Unfortunately our experience started on a sour note. The owner was very rude to me on the phone before we arrived for our ride. We missed our turn due to a heavy traffic condition caused by a serious accident. When I called for directions, the owner made several comments that were condescending and frankly quite insulting. I guess when there is no competition, there was no need for him to make any effort to provide good customer service in any way, let alone use common courtesy and speak to me in a polite, respectful manner.
If they weren't the only game in town, I would have canceled.
I am not telling anyone not to go to the Kelly Seahorse Ranch. It really was a nice ride. Just sharing what I experienced.

“What a great way to celebrate a birthday!”

I, my husband, and my best friend took this ride on 5/2/08 and enjoyed it immensely. The horses we rode were very well trained, well groomed, and gentle. What a way to celebrate a birthday! (I won't say which one, but I'm well past 39!) I only wish the ride could have been longer. The beaches were pristine and it was an ideal time of year to do this. I suspect it would be perhaps uncomfortable in the very hot weather (temperature was about 76 degrees on the day we rode), but I would recommend this to anyone within the age and weight limits. Unfortunately, my friend's "significant other" had to stay behind because he was over the weight limit, but I thought it was well worth the money. I only wish we had something like this where I live over here on the West Coast of Florida in St. Petersburg.

They charge $60 for a one hour ride, which I thought was pretty pricey compared to other vacation spots, but it was the experience of
riding on the beach, so I forked out the money and wasn't disappointed with the scenery. The horses were well-mannered and the ride went flawlessly.

However, the big drawback is that they do not allow cameras. They give all kinds of reasons, but the bottom line is so they can sell you the pictures they take at highway robbery prices! You can purchase a 4x6 print of yourself after the ride for $10 - that's more
than it costs me to get an entire roll of film printed!!! I realize they are there to make money, but that is going overboard.

“Wast of time and $$$$”

Dont was time. The horses were old and dirty. They got spooked very easily. You must stay in a straight path and the hores go very slow. The one good thing was it was very scenic. If you do go were pants and have fun in the hot hot sun.
