Okay, just went out today 6-14-08 and just got home. Drove all the way from Daytona Beach on a recommendation from a friend and I was very disappointed. I took my girlfriend for her 21st birthday.
The horses are amazing. They were clean, tame, and very well trained for the ride. They for the most part did all the steering and we just went for a ride. There was nothing bad about the horses.
The trip started sour when my girlfriend was offered to get on a horse first to demonstrate how to ride while they instructed her in front of everyone. There were two guides, one male and one female (the female was nice). The male did the instructing; there were more insults than instructions. He made comments about how he doesn't know how she has a driver's license because she obviously can't follow directions (in front of everybody) then proceeded to laugh after all of his own jokes. These kind of comments went on for about 5 minutes.
The walk through the trails and on the beach had great scenery, but like one other reviewer said, you may as well take this ride alone, because if you're with anyone else on the ride you won't be able to hardly look at them until you get done.
Walmart has better customer service. I feel horrible because I could have chosen to give my girlfriend a different present for her birthday, and instead I ended up giving her one that she hated. She gave it so much of a chance to like it, but we were treated like the guides couldn't wait to get everyone off the horses. The workers/guides had no personality - it really was an assembly line process. It's the kind of service where when you get there they point to a stack of papers and say "fill out a waiver", then when your done they say "take it and go pay here". After that... "come with me I'll get you on your horse". Very dry and not an enjoyable group of people to be around (the guides weren't enjoyable, the whole party I was with had more of a friendly character).
I have been to other horseback riding ranches, and Kelly Seahorse Ranch is in business to make money, not because they enjoy their job. They seem to love working with horses, but they're horrible at dealing with people. Overall I would've waited or driven (seriously, I would've forked over the extra money to fly somewhere else just to go to a different ranch). I chose Kelly Ranch because of the recommendation I got and the beach scenery. In the end we gave up about 8 hours and $120 that we can't get back.
