Amelia Island is a great place to get away. There are numerous public access points along the beach road known as Fletcher. The easiest access is Main Beach with a public parking area with spaces just a few feet from the sandy beach, small boardwalk and benches. Adjacent to this area is Sandy Bottoms Restaurant that is casual, has a good bar and good food. Nothing fancy but a few feet from your car.
I noticed folks commenting on windy beach days, but this is the beach and the ocean and on a beautiful day on Amelia Island just drive up to Main Beach and have a look around. Especially if you are elderly or want easy access, this is the place. A bit North of the Main Beach parking at the traffic signal are a public park, skate board park, public restrooms, and miniature golf in the Summer.
Main beach is located at the East end of Atlantic Avenue at Fletcher. Centre Street in Historic Fernandina Beach becomes Atlantic as you head East out of the Historic District. You will pass the Greenway, Fort Clinch and in two blocks you are at Main Beach. Lots of Shark Teeth here too!!!
