My wife and I visited Fort Clinch State Park on October 20, 2006. The entrance fee is $5 per car for the park. You can leave and re-enter the park the same day for that fee. The entrance fee for the fort is $2 per person. We parked and walked to the beach which has a half mile long fishing pier. We visited the fort, which has an interesting history, although it never saw combat. There was a Union soldier in the fort. You could ask him questions about the fort. He never broke character. Later we went on a short hike and saw a sign warning of alligators. We never saw any. We also went to the swimming beach, which was nearly deserted. The biting flies were a pest, however. (There are no life guards at the beach.) We would recommend this park to anyone who likes nature, local history, hiking, fishing, and swimming. Altogether a wonderful park.
