“Will be a five-star for families”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

This resort will be five-star when the ongoing construction completely finishes in a few weeks. We stayed here for four nights, the week it opened, and have both positive comments and areas which could use some improvement.
First, the positive. The physical facility itself is spectacular. Absolutely beautiful, breathtaking pool/beach area with easy ocean access to a very wide, clean, shallow beach with gentle waves. Plenty of chairs/cabanas and reasonable prices and friendly staff at both locations. The pool heat wasn't quite working during our stay, but assuming that is fixed by now, this area will be the highlight of any family vacation here. The place is also lushly landscaped, similar to Hawaii in impressive foliage.
The restaurants are very good-a special thank you to the extraordinary staff of Sunrise Cafe, the breakfast spot, with its not-to-be missed buffet and amazingly kind staff. The Verandah, too, has excellent, upscale food and a staff kind enough to make a special dinner for my child, which was much appreciated. Oceanside Grill has quite good, sophisticated food. Marche Deli has outstanding pizza and ice cream. All the restaurants were reasonably-priced; all dinner places could benefit from a few more teen-friendly entrees like pasta or plain grilled chicken.
Recreation is a mixed bag here-besides the excellent beach, I can highly recommend the tennis program, which welcomed us to its junior clinics as Omni guests, as well as rental of both segways and bikes to explore the thousands of acres of paths strewn with azaleas and spanish moss. There is a nice teen lounge with a range of video and arcade style games which we used when it rained. The nature center advertises a full-range of programs, but the staff seems disorganized and unprepared to actually give the tours advertised-possibly this will be fixed when the hotel is underway for longer.
The bad-Construction is ongoing. Our room in the sunrise wing was not affected, so if visiting in the next few months, I strongly suggest asking for that wing (also closest to the breakfast room). This problem should correct in the next few weeks, but admittedly, for those of us staying shortly after the opening, the disruption of the construction was substantial and could have been better addressed. I literally had to jump over paint cans to get to the lobby one day, and nearly bumped a worker off his ladder when I entered through a side-door. Oddly, there were no signs warning one of an impending construction area, nor any attempt to rope off the area-I did get sprayed with construction dust once. I do regard these as risks inherent in a new hotel but perhaps it opened a bit early, given the state of things. When these are corrected, this will be 5 star in every way.

Room Tip: Sunrise wing is crucial to avoid construction noise; higher levels are better, and we found the non...

Thank you for your positive review of our family-friendly resort. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your time with us and appreciate your feedback to allow us to improve in other areas. We are working to finish heating the pools and hope the warmer weather will assist in this endeavor! We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your dining experiences and that our staff exceed your expectations, I will share your feedback. We are proud we have varied recreation and that you were able to enjoy so much during your stay. I apologize for the construction that took place during your stay as well and will pass along the safety concerns to our team as well as the contractor. We hope you will return to visit us again in the future, thank you again!

We pulled into the resort behind a large construction vehicle, the first sign of a problem. After checking in and being told that our room was "wonderful" we went to find this room. There was banging, sawing, and drilling going on all around us. The out door walks are not finished, so we had to make our way around several construction workers. Then had to wait for someone to move a ladder before we could get into the elevator hall. The smell of epoxy, glues, paint, and dust was nauseating. Our room was in fact "wonderful", but the smell and the noise ruined it. Omni's web site says WE HAVE JUST COMPLETED OUR RENOVATIONS They have not! After a 5 hour drive, we left. It was not worth staying. While we were checking out 2 other couples were doing the same. When finished Omni will be beautiful, but the web site is very miss leading. CONSTRUCTION IS NOT COMPLETE

Thank you for your review. I am very sorry to hear you did not have a positive experience with us. Although we are open and many areas of our $85 million renovation are complete, there are still some areas that we are finishing work on. As we complete our punch lists with the contractors, our staff is diligently working to ensure we provide a positive experience for our guests. We understand there are some areas beyond our control and are doing our best to expedite and minimize all issues. Most of the work is contained within the main hotel area and there are many areas of our 1,350 acre resort left to explore. We do hope you will return to visit once all work is fully complete so you can fully experience our Re-Imagination.

We stayed here in October, 2012. Even though construction was going on everywhere our stay was wonderful. The beach is outstanding long and beautiful. Super Storm Sandy had just breezed by before we got there. Our room looked out over the ocean and the sun rises were awesome. The room was more than comfortable and it was very nice. The bed was perfect. We had a rental car but didn't need it to get around as the shuttle takes you everywhere. We are planning on returning in the near future once all the construction is finished. The pool area will be amazing. I am also a golfer so I plan on bringing my clubs next time. One of our top spots now on the East Coast.

my wife and i recently stayed omni plantation resort for 4 nights. the hotel has been completely gutted and they're adding 2 new wings. i heard their target finish date is the first week of march--not happening. they'll be lucky if it's done by summer. we stayed in the sandcastle building in a one-bedroom condo. VERY nice. kitchen, living area, bedroom and bath are all very nicely appointed. the bed was super comfortable. cleaning service was excellent. nothing was dirty or left undone. living area had xfinity cable and the bedroom regular cable--fine for us. our room on the 5th floor had an ocean view with a small, very private balcony accessible from living or bedroom. since there was nothing made available at check in and nothing in the condo, we had to call front desk to get the password for wireless. no big deal.

elevator was broken 2 of the 4 days. not a problem for me because i like the exercise but an elderly couple on our floor were having difficulties even descending the stairs, especially upon leaving. i offered but they said someone was on the way to help them down with luggage.

was there for meetings and all the meals were good except desserts. hard to find breakfast in the off-season. the workout area is fantastic. plenty of cardio machines, several weight machines and a full compliment of dumbells from 5lbs to 80lbs. shower facilities clean and well stocked. didn't use lap pool or play golf.

omni plantation is close enough to jacksonville to drive in for more restaurants and shopping plus it's a great drive heading south on Hecksher (A1A i think).

because of the hotel construction, new conference center construction and other maintenance and upgrades, finding your way around, and specifically to check in is tricky. everyone is helpful, though.

gave 5 stars because in spite of the elevators and construction issues. highly recommend. i'm sure the hotel will be spectacular.

Room Tip: any ocean view room is gonna be great!

Thank you for your review. We are happy to tell you we are opening right on time next week on March 5th! So all spring bookings and or course those in summer, will be able to take advantage of all the Re-Imagination renovations including the new oceanfront hotel rooms, the pools, restaurants, etc!

I'm happy to hear you enjoyed your stay in the Villas of Amelia Island Plantation. I'll pass along your feedback to our teams. I think when you return you'll find many our improvements address your areas of concern such as our one easy check-in location in the oceanview lobby as well as the pedestrian pathway from the hotel to the core Shops area.

We look forward to having you back with us in the future!

We have been going to the plantation for 26 years. It is a beautiful location for almost all outdoor activities. We have always stayed in the Villas. Unfortunately they are not being maintained since Omni has taken over. The details are being overlooked. Too bad it is such a prefect setting.

This hotel is located on the beautiful Amelia Island, and it is definitely a large sprawling Hotel. We stayed at the Sandcastle villas and they were very nice we were with a large family so we stayed in 3 different villas. Each one had its own charm and its own flavor, they were all immaculately kept and extremely well maintained. The view from the porch isabsolutely breathtaking and one of a kind. yyou can walk almost anywhere in the resort there are walking trails to their stores, and there restaurants, and the spa. the major renovations that are taking place we're definitely a hindrance on the vacation. I have a 2 year old and really there was no place for her to swim inside as it was cold in December. That was a large downfall. Once the new hotel is complete and the new pool is completely am sure that it will be wonderful. For us it was a slight let down. The grounds are well kept and beaches were absolutely wonderful. I hope to again see this hotel once the actual renovation is complete because I'm sure it's going to be A gorgeous Hotel. I was say to come back once the renovations are complete as you will miss out on the slight bonuses of staying at this hotel.

Even though the hotel is undergoing a remodeling (they call it "re-imagining" - and it really is...) there was no down-side to our stay here. The staff was consistently helpful and friendly. The local amenities were unaffected by the massive evolution taking place. And the weather and the beaches cooperated to provide a wonderful long weekend in an amazingly beautiful environment.
The Plantation feels more like Savannah than Miami and the golf, biking and tennis were all part of a wonderful collection of activities.
We'll be looking forward to the finished product in this beautiful part of North Florida!

Room Tip: Mid-level rooms give great views of ocean while still able to watch the action on the golf course.
