“Whats with the dogs?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2014

We have been going to Kona since its opening day. What we have ordered has always been good and that is why we return frequently. Lately I have been annoyed by the number of animals sharing the space and even sitting on seats. This past visit, there were 4 dogs on the porch ranging in size, some barking, all making themselves comfortable.

I like dogs, but don't care to share my eating and drinking with them.

Yes, we are pet friendly, but only on our front deck and at our front firepits. I wish you had brought your dislike for the dogs to our attention as we could have sat you elsewhere - we have lots of seating choices! Hope to see you again!

“Slipping”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2014

Always loved the food in this place but lately it seems to be slipping. Wings were lukewarm and had obviously been reheated, Filet Mignon taco was tough and chewy. Service by the bar maid was very good. Going back and hope it gets to where it was.

“Great foot but was servered luke warm.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2014

We had the smoked wings, French fries and Brunswick Stew. The wings and stew though served barely warm had great flavor. The wings and fries were sent back with the fries returning colder than the first time even though we were told that they were fresh out of the fryer. We are locals and sadly probably won't return.

“Yummy food and wonderful atmosphere!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2014

There are several places to sit--all of which are outside and mostly covered. There are a few bars, a few bonfire areas, and a small area where a band set up. Tiki lights, eclectic and fun decorations, fun and efficient staff! The band that played was a blue grass band and they played at just the right volume so you could hear them and have a conversation.

The food was great! They have gluten-free options and the server was very knowledgeable about what I could order. I got blackened mahi-mahi tacos with black beans, rice, and a salad. Others got pulled pork sandwich, pulled pork tacos, and ahi tacos. Everyone enjoyed their meal! I also recommend the sweet plantains. They were delicious!

Overall, great place to hang out with friends or family!

“A bit overrated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014

We wanted to like this more but would not return were we locals. Happened upon it while passing through on the Sunday of an arts and crafts show which hosted throngs of people. This place was busy but was not packed, and we found the service sadly lacking. Atmosphere is lively and it's laid back, eclectic and interesting, but we just came to eat. Our server was also tending the back bar and tried his very best. Started off with a very bad mojito which he acknowledged was probably not his best effort (didn't rink it), and I think staff just became nicer and nicer to us when it was apparent we were waiting an undue length of time for food and being pleasant anyway.
Menu was varied and interesting but I had a real tough time figuring out how in the world to order from among the taco options, even after the waiter explained it to me, part of which included "Don't pay any attention to anything below this line" which included filling options.Flat out goofy. That said, they were good but seriously overpriced. I also do not appreciate when a server suggests an accompaniment without identifying it as an up charge, which is what happened with my husband's sandwich. Again, a good choice but pricey, $2 added for the side which we had thought was among the items included, per the menu.
It's also a little off-putting to wait outside the one-person restroom (one each for men and women) because it's a level up from the main dining area. Not much to do but pretend you're not looking at people eating and that they're not aware you're practically hovering over them.
Just not a positive experience.
